Need a jacket for cold weather. I'm looking at leather but can't afford too much right now. Does a jacket have to be a "motorcycle" jacket or can I pick up a bomber's jacket and it will work just as well? Thanks

Motorcycle jacket does have armor so it is a different from just a bomber jacket. I bought the Joe Rocket Speedmaster 5.0, which I wouldn't suggest you to purchase. It's an awesome jacket, but it's on the pricey side. The only thing I don't like about it is it only has one pocket and it's located inside the jacket. The jacket is designed for the track so it has less pockets. It's a cool looking jacket if you don't mind the billboard look, but I have 2 jackets by Joe Rocket and they will probably always get my business.

Also, bomber jackets aren't made out of leather that will hold up in a crash. Tour Master has a couple decent leather jackets that are easy on the wallet.

Ok, I got a Joe Rocket jacket from online. I actually went to stores around here first so I could try to give them some business. They only had motorcycle brand jackets..kawi, honda, etc. Anyway, the jacket is stiff as heck, not too comfortable. I've never had a riding leather jacket before...will it loosen up a bit or is that just how they are?

leather is always really stiff when its brand new. It will soften up somewhat over time, but since it's made for protection don't ever expect it to get super soft and supple or anything!

Maybe I just need one a little bigger. I always wear a medium tho even in the joe rocket mesh jacket. I just don't feel like trying to sell this one and then finding another one I can't try on and hoping it fits. This one is tight around the waist and when I have it zipped up the collar hits my jaw...like it doesn't bend at all. Think I should just give it more time?

Same here Hope I softens up a little we will see.
I tried to soften it up by wreaking my bike yesterday but no luck, don't think I will do that again, weren't fun .
I missed a very tight turn at around 30mph.
OK take it easy the jacket is just fine.
The rider well that is another story and so is the bike.
Main thing is the New jacket is undamaged!

I still have some work to do on the bike but I did take her out today for 35 min today. she don't look or ride too bad but I still have a few things to fix like her Tachometer is busted and her driver need a little time to heal. :D
I forced my bike to take the turn that busted us both a few days earler wanted the bike to know who was boss this time she listened and we both made the turn, ok be it a little slower only around 25 mph .:D

If you need to "soften" the collar of a leather jacket, you can use warm water and spray it wet, then work the leather - smoosh it around and reshape it. Hang it up to dry with the collar shaped how you want it. When it dries, it'll be a little softer, plus since you reshaped to be more comfortable for you, it'll stay shaped and comfortable. I did this with an A-2 whose collar bugged me, and it's great now.

Can't really help you with the waist, but I had the same problem, and the Mensheath.com Abs diet and exercise routine worked for me. From a 38 waist to a 34. Took time and dedication, but well worth it.....

Selmer...I'm a size 6..it shouldn't be tight at the waist :) And I will try that with the collar when I get home...thanks

Leather jackets tend to run a size small. So if you are normally an XS, order a Small, etc. But I can fit a JR Medium (in mesh) at a size 10... so no way do you need a larger size. Is the waist adjustable? Most JR jackets have snaps or waist zips.

As far as the neck, it should soften up...

Have you tried mink oil? It works pretty well.

I have a Joe Rocket Trixie jacket and it has softened up like crazy with regular wear plus occasional mink oil.

I'm gonna go get some mink oil tomorrow. I prolly just need to wear it more. The waist is adjustable and I have it all the way adjusted:) Just hasn't been very cold yet for me to wear. I'll have to wear it around the house...kinda like turning on the air conditioner so you can light the fire :D

Thanks
