For what it's worth, I've owned a Victory (my first) 2000 V92SC (1507cc) Sport Cruiser now for about 2 years. Bought used off of eBay it still is a work in progress but it is coming along. It's the only other V-Twin I've owned besides Harleys - I wanted something different this last time out and boy is it ever! :D Like most things it's got it's good points and bad ones, but it all tends to balance out in the end. ;)

Footnote: now there are 'specific' Victory forums out there, one at least which considers itself to be a real  'M/C'. Just Goggle, it will come up. Lot a good info in the one - just put on your 'thicker skin' IF you post! Nuff' said... :p

Yeah just what I did - 99 Victory off Ebay - man nothing like a little risk. It is the first big twin I have owned. I can not compare it to Harley. I would be very interested in hearing what your impressions are neg and pos. I am learning as I go with this bike. Just bought service manual off ebay. I am thick skinned and skulled - just want to make my Victory experience the best it can be.

With so much hard feelings and negativity out there these days towards Harleys by folks who never owned a Harley or ever will, I'm thinking a Vic might just be the made to order choice? First and foremost my impressions so far are that this is a decent bike. Now mind you OUR earlier models are renown for having “transmission problems” which generally crop up around 30,000 miles or so (or “earlier or never…”?!). What exactly IS the problems I cannot never seem to get a straight answer out of anyone (go figure). All I know is the solution (fix) runs about $3-4 grand at a Victory/Polaris dealer. I’m guessing mine has about 10,000 to 20,000 miles on it and except for a very loud traditional ‘Harley-like Clunk’ when shifting the tranny seems to be working perfectly (knock on wood). I paid $3,900.00 (plus $$$ shipping) off of eBay for this thing and I think that was a fair deal. As our business orders steadily dry up yet AGAIN during this economic period, the first things to always fall victim are my bikes! Guess which will go first and who will be kept to the last?!
Beyond finances the Vic really IS a completely different animal then a Harley – like night and day. Comparing a Victory is more akin to current Metrics then Harleys, yet I’m saying a MUCH larger percentage of the Vic’s parts are Made in the USA then Harleys these days (amazing?). I’m saying also my V92SC feels a lot more like my past Gold-Wings (in smoothness, sound, etc.) then Harleys – this in a V-Twin package. The main thing I look at ANY machine these days is: what’s involved with repairs? So far the two are running neck-to-neck, each have pluses and minuses. Oil and filter changes about the same, battery access, etc.. Adjusting the Rear Mono Shock on the Vic was a pain! Changing Spark Plugs on the V92 was a major hassle: the plugs are SO recessed into the heads that the only way to access them is to remove the 6 gallon tank – again annoying! Though a pain to drain, I do love the giant fuel tank on this thing. Harleys remain though 500% easier to get parts for – for the Vic thank gawd there’s an eBay! I immediately needed to replace busted Throttle AND Clutch cables on the Victory.
The Vic is the first EFI bike I’ve ever owned. At least it is proving easier to figure out then my wife’s 91’ Pontiac (2.0L SOHC Four w/EFI). Apparently I still need (?) to clean the “Throttle Body” on this thing. I figure that will be one of those nice winter projects I can do (in between working MOST of the time). Nuff’ said.

Footnote: Physically I'm finding the Vic to be one of the largest bikes I have least ever owned (as I realize there's bigger one's out there now!). I'd say this IS my limit!

Just want to add: dealing with H-D Motor Co versus Polaris Industries Inc. No one can beat the Big Four (Kawi / Yammie / Honda / Suzuki) for Customer Service of course. At least that was my experience contacting all of em’ (before Home PC’s) years ago by Snail Mail. Always got an answer – always, without fail. I was impressed by the still relatively unknown Hyosung, and their very courteous and expedite response via email. Over the years I’ve found Harley-Davidson WILL answer, and very well thank you. But ONLY if you follow ‘procedures’ – that means mailing BY the post ONLY (they will not respond to emails). On the other hand, Polaris (Victory) I suspect would not give you a drink of water even if you were dying in the gawd dang desert! They got a good product I’m saying, but they quite frankly just don’t wanna’ know you! Nuff’ said.
