One day my neighbor and I went for a ride, and I think he spoke to God that day. A few times.

We where going down Lime Creek road, a nice and twisty road, the hole way. In fact I think the longest straight might be 20 yards. Sounds great right?:D Well, it is unless you get stuck behind a guy pulling a boat.:( Yes it happens, and on a road like that theres not much you can do but wait untill he turns of which being right by the lake and passing 3 boat ramps its bound to happen, so you just wait.

Or should I say I just wait.;) So next thing I know my friends passing me right in between turns. So I back off and let him. Then we start into a long sweeping right and he pulls right out and starts passing this Duelly pulling a Ski boat, and I never heard him down shift. He just cassually pulls out and takes his sweet a$$ time getting around this guy. Meantime Im slowing way down cause I know this can't be good. He gets all the way up to the drivers door of the truck and then:eek: I see another bike comeing twards him. My buddy straightes up, locks up his breaks, goes right off in the ditch, and the other guy on the bike looks at me like what the hell is he thinking. All I could do is shrug my shoulders. :o

So amazingly he doesn't go down, and now hes comeing back out of the ditch. Right before he gets back on the road 3 more bikes come flying around the corner. Once again OH SH*T:eek:, and they all panicked. Man they all locked up there brakes and they all came within inches of each other. And once again I shrug:o

At that point I was stopped in a drive way accross the street, and my friend was back in the ditch. Wow , My heart was pumpin, and it wasn't even me that had all the excitement.

So to make a long story short. He stays behind me now. Infact for the rest of that day we took it real slow. (you know only 10 over):)

Oh and by the way, after I had a smoke and he calmed his nerves we got back on the raod and guess what I saw about a half mile down the road.

Yep, the truck backing his boat down the ramp.

So moral of the story. Patients is a vertue.

WEAR YOUR GEAR AND RIDE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So moral of the story. Patience is a virtue.

Then I'm a slut! :p Those double stripes down the road? Those are the "motorcycle only passing lanes"! :D

I'm glad that he was lucky. Back in July I posted a link to a news story of two bikes hitting head-on causing a 5 bike pile up; 2 dead. Maybe a similar situation?

Not cowardice, just good common sense. New riders shouldn't be doing anything they're not comfortable with, at least not on public streets.

thanks. that is what i kinda thought, but it takes some thinkin' through sometimes. as a driver you get so used to a certain condition, and on a bike NONE of those rules apply...

I'm not the most seasoned of riders, more so on the green side, but common sense should play a bigger factor. I drive an excursion. I have tow mirrors. I've almost taken off bikers heads that were trying to do something foolish with them. I also tow some sizable trailers from time to time. I hate it when bikers do dumb things around me, the nice guy in me doesn't want to make a speed bump out of them, but the practical guy doesn't want to drive 20,000lbs off the road at 50-70mph. I guess that has an effect on how I ride, especially around other vehicles.

Some riders think they're invincible because they're on a bike. This blows my mind, as it's quite the opisite. Typically your less maneuverable, more prone to error(simple slip of the wrist on the throttle?), much less protected, and much less visible. Sadly, that's something that typically you either know or you don't know, whether you've been riding for 20 years or 20 minutes.

I am glad that no one has video of all of the stupid things I have done over the years. That being said, it is funny to see some one else do something stupid.

Ya tell me about it.
I have had 3 falls and 2 close calls.
on one fall It was because the front brake locked up and caused the rear wheel to slide out from under me. happened in the back yard going around the house to work on the bike.

second time I was going to fast around a posted 20 mph turn, all my falt not paying close attention messing with the choke, did not counter steer etc.

3 rd time I front of my house throttle stuck in the open position.
did not have time to think and locked up the front brake rear wheel came around and struck the runningboard on the neighbors van.
Lucky for me only minor dammage and he said not to worry about it.
Later I found 1 small scrap pc of wood probably from a project my wife or kids has done that had some how fell on top of the carbs. it had wedged under the throttle causing it to stick open.
I tryed to apply the clutch but the bike started falling and I released the clutch causing it to slide around and hit the van running board.
bike got a few scratches and 1 reflector cracked .

I am sure glad no one recorded any of my mistakes it is bad enough telling on my self.
