I have had this bike for a year and its in almost new condition and i was told it was rebuilt before i bought it. Its a four stoke and the problem only recently started after i really rode it hard off road and on trails. I usally dont ride it often maybe once every week or two. Once i notice the motor was click loud only at idle i took a look and i burned my self on the crancase. The bike never got that hot. I was thinking the cam chain but im not sure. The bike also has the right level of oil in it and is taken well care of. Also i can only hear the noise at idle and there is no effect on the engines power. What could be wrong? The bike is air cooled and single cylinder.

the clicking sounds like it could be from timing chain getting sloppy and/or valve issues that may or may not be from the timing chain. It may just need a valve adjustment or repair, or a new timing chain. I had the same bike with the same problem but I sold it before i ever got to tackle the issue.

Im pretty sure its the valves and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the valve adjustments were or had a book were could look it up.

Any help will be appreciated

white smoke? I just put my bike away and there was withish smoke comming out of the muffler. Do you guys think that maybe the rings are stuck and it burning oil? Maybe that is why it gets hot and makes noise. I did ride it hard after it sat for about 2 weeks. It didnt to have a problem until it was used for about 4 hours straight.

blown head gasket, or washed rings more then likely.
