I was traveling across Louisianna last year and I where I10 turns into I12 I had took my helmet off and was only wearing my bandana. I got stuck in a traffic jam and there was a cop behind me and there was a motorcycle cop roving back and forth on the shoulder giving out tickets. He just waved at me. The cop behind me just followed for a while... thats it.
Later I discovered that Louisianna is a Helmet state. Does anyone know why they didn't give me a ticket?

Maybe you didn’t look affluent enough to be carrying enough decent bribe money on you???:confused:

I wouldn't complain about it. Maybe the cop just didn't care. I think most of the time the helmet law is enforced just so they have a reason to pull you over cause they don't like you. I know in Texas that the helmet ticket is like 15 dollars.

Wow Rex kind of a bitter remark.
Now whether you wear a helmet or not, I don’t care, so don’t get your knickers in a twist when I say Helmet laws are in place for the simple reason Seat Belt laws are in Place to save your ass.
Short of some of the other country's I've lived in I know of no state cops that have taken bribes on highway stops nor have I heard of any stories of state cops being brided on the side of the road in the last twenty years, does it happen? I'm sure it does, once in a blue moon but it is the radical exception.

Probably because you had Texas Plates.

I grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi. I'd venture to say that it was mostly just a southern cop being a southern cop. Most of them are generally pretty laid back until it comes to something that's actually important (theft, violence, etc).
I've also noticed that if you have out of state tags, you're probably a little more likely to be let off the hook. I haven't figured out if it's to avoid scaring people off, or if it's just hospitality.
Or maybe you just got lucky. :)

This could go along the lines of tinted windows, sure they could pull you over and give you a ticket for it, but your state might not have laws against it.
I would say it's because your tags were from another state and maybe they didn't know if that state has helmet laws.

Louisiana has flip-flopped on the helmet law over the past few years. Pehaps the cops are so used to seeing helmetless riders they don't get excited about it. If you were a perennial helmet law state then the cops would certainly have pulled you over.
Read my intro if you'd like to know how I really feel about helmet laws.

Gov Foster, an avid motorcyclist, repealed the helmet law and then Gov Blanco, not a motorcyclist, put it back in effect. She did so before Foster even had his sock drawer cleaned out. It was a pet cause for her and a small part of her campaign. Many citizens of Louisiana were against the law or didn't care either way. I lived in La at the time of both Govs, but did not have a motorcycle. Still though, the vibe from most people was that Blanco just wanted to look like she was taking fast action for the citizens of the state. Feel good fluff is what it was. I never heard Gov Jindal address the issue.

Tried to repeal the law again this year but it is the same. Gotta wear one. Prolly saw your plates and didn't worry about it.
Gotta love my home state Florida no helmets required.
