hi i live in mesa arizona im looking at getting a suzuki gsx650f but first i was hopeing that some one could answer a question for me. i was shot at a young age in the back and it caused some nerve damage to my left leg/foot which causes a large problem with shifting i did gain the ability to use my foot mostly normal but i can not up shift with a standard shifter ive never tried a heel-toe shifter and i was told that it might work but i was wondering if anyone knows if instead i could swap the brake to the left foot and the shifter to the right foot and if so would you happen to know what the around about cost would be?

I really have no idea of the cost but I think in most applications that would be a much more drastic modification than a heel-toe shifter. You may want to pursue a heel-toe mod first.

This would be astronomically difficult! As written above try the H/T. You could also consider having a suicide shifter fabricated so it is all hand controlled.

Welcome to the forum!
I agree that it would be difficult to swap the brake and shifter around, and probably expensive as well. Heel/toe is probably the way to go.
I'll move this thread over to the "No Bike Yet but Soon" Section.

I agree, it would be expensive, but just think of how freaked out others would be, you pull up at a friends house that rides, and offer to let him ride it, hilarity ensues as he tries to put it in gear with the brake and clicks it in gear while trying to push on the rear brake. (as long as there is no damage it would be funny at least LOL)

Do they even make heel/toe shifters for the GSX650F? Or would it be fairly easy to retrofit one?

I'm not sure if they make one, but it would be easy enough to fabricate or adapt one.

Just a thought but why not look into fitting the bike with an air shift? This way you wouldn't need the foot to upshift, only to downshift. You would trigger the upshift off a button on the handlebars.

That is a really good idea!! :) Best so far.

ok so i just went by the dealership and ran a few of these ideas by one of the guys in the shop and with my foot he recomended the air shifter so looks like ill probably go that way which he said could be anywhere from 400 to 1000 possibly more due to the whole thing needing to be custom fabricated but ill keep looking for anything else that is out there to try. just wondering also where i could find a picture of what an air shifer would look like when set up on a bike? is there a way to conceal the air caniser?
got to say thanks for all the ideas so far from everyone

Here ya go... The actual solenoid on the manual arm for the shifter I couldn't find but the system itself is pretty simple and I would say the parts are well inside of the $500 range. The fitting of those parts will take a bit of thought but doable and for you, very user friendly.

I looked around at kits and they go from 250 to +600$. You could shade-tree some parts up yourself and just buy the tank and solenoid/switches, although it’s not really something you want to skimp on.

Agreed 100%. If I'm doing this to my bike it will be top floor as it has to last as long as I do and considering it will catch some eyes, stand bye as you will likely find it to bring up some very interesting conversations. Put a NOS sticker on the bottle and you will really get them scratching their heads.....
Now, I need that shift light......
