Hi there, my husband doesn't like to wear gloves because he says they interfere with his ability to use the controls and (I think) make his hand go to sleep.
He chooses not to wear gloves and, as a result, suffers from cold hands and bug strikes when he rides. I shudder to think what his hands would look like if he ever went down. The man makes a living with those hands and really can't afford to be laid up with hand injuries.
Can anyone suggest some good protective gloves that will solve those problems for him?

The first thing it sounds like you need to do is convince him that gloves WON'T interfere with using the controls. I doubt there are any gloves out there that will magically make him believe this.
What type of bike does he ride? If he's not conscious about his image (if he rides a cruiser), you might look into some of the snugger fitting sport bike gloves with pre-curved fingers. I wear Power Trip Bravo gloves (http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/gloves/power_trip_us_army_branded_gear/bravo_motorcycle_gloves.html) and they are perfect for me. A lot of the driving gloves I've had in the past were bulky and ill-fitting (maybe this is where he got that impression?), but these actually fit like a glove, for lack of a better phrase.

:D *giggle* I'm not looking for magic mind control gloves (though those could be very cool).
DH rides a Triumph sport touring bike. He's not huge on image, fortunately. What I'm looking for are gloves that will allow him to feel the controls and offer protection for his hands. I suspect the sleeping hands may have resulted from poorly fitted gloves that pressed on a nerve or limited circulation. The man has big hands.
Sport bike gloves, eh? I'll look for some. Thanks, primalu.

Erm. Apparently I'm guilty of listening like a woman (e.g. Hearing something, but not what he said.) The problem is that gloves make his hands tired. I'm thinking that sport bike gloves may still solve the problem, so I'm ordering some from New Enough.
I can't say enough good things about that company. I've just got an email from them encouraging me to buy the less expensive jacket because it fits my needs better. Totally, completely floored. I can't remember the last time anyone passed up the opportunity to sell a bigger item. So I'm buying a couple pair of gloves that I hadn't planned to get yet.

I also love New Enough. I've ordered gloves and a tank bag and couldn't be happier with my experience. They'll always be the first place I check for gear.

I ride a Triumph Trophy and use Icon Accelerant gloves. They are a bit on the sport biker side but have padding in the right spots. I have ridden with them on for 2 hours at a time on a 5 hour ride with no problems.

I've never been a fan of wearing gloves, but I always wear them when riding. I have a pair of Teknic Chicane's, and I love them. They're really comfy, and have padding in all the important areas and knuckle protection. I ride a cruiser, so I bought mine in black, and they look really good as well.

ramtuff, that's good to hear. New Enough has some on closeout that I'm hoping to get. Now for the darn paycheck to clear!

The Chicanes arrived on Friday. I'm not sure mine fit well. They feel sloppy from side to side, so I may exchange them for a smaller size. It was nice to have some decent protection on the road.
DH is going to keep his for sure. They're better than no protection and kept his hands warm enough on the ride home tonight. But he still feels that they don't feel precurved at all.

Olivia, I was reading your post and wanted to tip you off on the Bionic Gloves. They have the curved fingers in this glove and plenty of road protection. A better lighter grip is required with this one. I know first hand as my son and I both wear them. He waers them dirt bike riding and says his hands don't get as tired.
I found them at Street Custom Motorcycle on the web
Check them out.

I picked up a pair of teknic's that seem to fit your requirements. They fit me (like a glove). sorry couldn't resist.
But seriously, they fit really nice. :) Got em from newenough.

Buff, I've heard of Bionic Gloves. DH doesn't need a stronger grip. The man has a grip that could crush steel. But that does sound like a great glove for him. :) I'll look into it.
Nitelord, which Teknic glove? We have the Chicane street one, the fingers of which do not seem to be very curved. They leave grooves in DH's hands from the seams if he bends them around the handlebars for long.
I'm currently lusting after something (possibly not Teknic) with titanium armor, but my paycheck is just laughing at me.

Hard to believe, but I saw Bell leather gloves at Walmart yesterday for $34.99 (They're called Gauntlet, but don't have gauntlets!). But they're fairly thin leather with leather armor to protect knuckles.
I tried them on, and WOW - VERY comfy! I was so surprised...and told my kid to get them for me for my b-day next week.
I use Mesh armored gloves in the summer - I live in Florida, and "cool" as in temp was the key factor. I bought these on eBay, and they match my jacket. The gloves are leather and mesh combo.
Check eBay, MotorcycleSuperstore dot com, and CycleGear dot com (won't let me post URLS yet).
Hope that helps!
