Hi all- just finished a new rider's course last weekend and am dying to start riding. I'm in Colorado and will likely be soliciting opinions on starter bikes and what not. Cheers!

Hey all,
I will (hopefully) be purchasing my first bike within the next 30 days, and wanted to get opinions from people with sciatic nerve issues: any obervations on models/styles that help or hurt the condition? Is it just a "try and see" situation? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum!
It's really hard to say if riding will bother your back or not. A more upright cruiser style may be your best bet. I would plan on short rides at least to start with.

Ya, I agree. I know this sort of thing really varies from person to person. I think I'll just go ahead and look for something with forward controls and see how it goes. Heck- maybe I'll stumble onto something helpful for others.

The only issue I can see is if you get some sort of lowriding bike without forward controls. I have a huge seat on my CB and can take it for long rides using the center pegs without my back or hips hurting. If I am on the Harley for any length of time, because it is a lowrider, my back and hips begin to hurt. It is mainly because I have not gotten highway pegs on it yet, and the seat is really hard.
I agree with a cruiser or a standard - something in the upright position. I have some severe back pain issues, and I used to ride a Honda Reflex scooter - the upright (and sometimes way back, relaxed posture) gave me no problems even when I rode for hours on the highway.

Welcome from NC. You should have some beautiful country roads to ride in Colorado. I'm jealous!
