Hey guys, im new to the boards but participate on a few other car forums. I am taking my first classes this weekend and should have my licsense soon after. I am going back to school in DE in September but I want to get a bike. I might buy it when I come home for x-mas break, or maybe when I am at school. I would just like some suggestions on what bike. I know a used one is preferable but a new ninja 250 is SO tempting, and relatively cheap. Do you guys have any suggestions for a nice used bike? Also, what gear would u recommend? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!
I'll move this thread to the "No Motorcycle Yet" section.
The Ninja 250 is a good bike to learn on. I think you are headed in the right direction.

Welcome to the forums. As for the bike, the Ninja 250 is an excellent bike for a starter bike but you really should look for a used one. More than likely you will drop the bike at least once and it would be much better to dropped a used one than a new one. As for gear; helmet, gloves, jacket, riding pants and shoes that give you ankle support. Good luck and have fun looking, it is part of the fun!

Good luck, I'm from Miami and even the brand new ones are hard to find (be prepared to pay over MSRP).
I realize from haunting these forums that other areas of the country are more well supplied; maybe because we have great riding weather year round ...it's always hard to find used beginner bikes.
Try Craigslist, and drop in at Motorsports of Miami or Palmetto Motorsports. You might also check out Vam Motorsports off of SW 120th St near the Turnpike; ask for Victor. They can get most bikes for you (order) for less than MSRP and get used bikes from time to time. Also have an awesome mechanic Jeff and good prices for routine maintenance.
No I don't work there LOL I'm a teacher.
