Welcome. Bikers seem to be good people, at least the ones here.
What kind of bike are you considering getting?

I'm looking into a Yamaha Virago (V-Star) 250 at a local dealer to use as a beginner/commuter bike to college. The idea is to totally cancel out how much the payment is going to cost with the increased gas mileage I'll be getting =P.

Awesome man! Have fun, and above all, be safe! Don't forget to bring lots of food with you. They aren't lying when they tell you the course is physically demanding (at least mine was, I did the 2 day one which was riding 11am-6pm)

The MSF course was easy. I knew how to drive stick before hand (i suggest learning if you can, it will make you safer on a motorcycle. I suggest to anyone that it is much better to learn a clutch on something that has 4 wheels than 2)
but if not, it is still managable. I have bene riding for a few months now and love it. A few close calls from grandma style drivers, but for the most part it is smooth. I drive a new 2007 GS500F and I love it, so quick and agile, great for northern NJ :)
