Hey all,

This being my first post, I figured I'd share some details about myself. I'm a 23 year old student in Orlando Florida. I've been lurking around the site that I've been considering buying a motorcycle in the near future. I have very little experience, I have only rode my old roommates 600 GSXR in parking lots and short distances. Even then, it was a blast.

The main reason for buying a bike is for the commute to college and back home, which is only about 3-4 miles round trip. For this and the general consensus of the forum of how important a starter bike is, I have decided to purchase a 2008 Ninja 250R.

I don't plan on making the purchase until end of September or early October. Hopefully I won't have too much trouble getting my hands on one :D. I will be enrolling in the MSF as soon as possible.

Anyway, I'm excited and can't wait! Feel free to comment or put a newb in his place :p

Welcome to the forum!

I think the 250 Ninja will be great for your commute and very fun to ride in your free time as well. You certainly won't have any trouble with reselling it once you move on to a different bike.

Welcome!

A 250 Ninja is a great way to go. A ninja 500 or suzuki gs500 also make good starter bikes, but they do not look as cool as the 250R. Someone that works at my university has a 250R, Its candy plasma blue and looks identical to the ZX10. I gotta find out who is belongs to...

Anyway, rounding our your list of good beginner sport bikes are the Ninja 650R, the suzuki SV650, and MAYBE the Hyosung 650. These bikes are bigger, faster, and harder to learn on. They require a level head, plus the MSF taken before hand. I'd be happy to share my experience learning to ride on a ninja 650R if you like, or just find what I've written about it on the forum

so once again, welcome to the forum, ask many questions, and keep us posted on what you decide!

Welcome.. Maybe I'll see you around some time. I happen to find myself in o-town on occasion.

Welcome..

Be sure to take the long way to school as eventually the battery will go dead if you only ride that 3-4 miles during the day. The bike won't have the necessary time to charge the battery on the short runs which are literally barely enough time to reach operating temperature and this includes the tires too. Beyond this you should have some awesome and cheap transportation.
