Hey all I just wanted to know what you think would be a good fit for a big guy, im 6'4" i weigh 265lbs. I was thinking about getting a sport bike, but i just think that i might be to big for one, but then i started to think about gettin a cruiser, then i saw some price tags and i just dont know what kind i want.:confused:

I want the price range to be lower than $5,000.00 so that I can afford payments, and that it wont hurt my pocket book either. If you want to know more about me and help me decide on what I should get or what I would look good on, just message me and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Again No bike yet, but i will get one really really soon.

Welcome to the forum!

You might check into a dual sport. The seat heights are way up on those and they may let you stretch out a bit. Your weight shouldn't effect just about any bike you choose. Most are made to hold two riders and 265 is well within the load limit of anything 250CC or greater.

Welcome!

Look into a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course. Even if you are on a tight budget, it is definitely worth the money.

Other than that, my advice is to find time to go to a dealership, and sit on a bunch of bikes. When you find a few you like, ask a salesperson to hold it upright so you can put your feet on the pegs and get in the riding position. Once you narrow it down to a few bikes, go look for a used one. Feel free to ask any and all questions you might have, we are happy to help!

Welcome, Go by the dealership and sit on a couple bikes and see how they feel, ultimately its up to you which bike you will want.

Also we like to talk here out in the open. You can tell us about yourself without fear of being made fun of. No need to use the PM system for that:) You'll find we are very understanding...and fairly bright as well.

Well i know the style of bike I want, GSKR I just dont know how I would look on it, and what the price range is either. Im looking into trading my 1997 GMC Sierra Van in and try to get some money off of it and use that to put the down payment on a bike. I know there's a thing about vehicles that are 10years old or fail to pass emissions test that you can get like $3,000.00 for it. That's what I am planning on doing. Now if anyone knows where a newbie like me could go in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to go and get a bike for under $5,000 or $6,000 that would be wonderful. Also I was wondering if in order for me to ride do I have to have my Motorcycle License or if I can use my car one?

If ya'll could help me figure these things out that would be wonderful!

Unless your looking to buy from the dealer, check out craigslist.org in the dallas/ft. worth area. I bought my 2000 gsxr 600 off there for $3500. There are great deals there just make sure your not going to get scammed. NO wire transfers, paypal or anything like that. You meet the seller in person and check out what your going to buy

I checked out some of the bikes on there, they look very promising and I cant wait to go and check them out, i was just afraid of getting scammed like you said. I just hope that I can find one that fits my budget is all.

Just make sure you ask the right questions and look for the right things. Clear title, title isn't signed over from last seller. Ask for a bill of sale, I always like to meet people at their house, that way you can lead the police there should something turn up stolen. Check to make sure the VIN is intact. Mechanically, check underneath the bike for leaking oil, inside the fairings as well. check the tires, make sure the bike rolls straight, and test drive if you can. Just look for something that seemed like to good of a deal, its usually a scam. Or bring a mechanic or a mechanically inclined buddy with you.

I recommend you also look into bikes more suited for beginners, such as the kawasaki ninja 250R, 500R or maybe the 650R. The suzuki gs500 is also a great choice.

best thing you can do when checking out a used bike is bring a buddy that knows how to ride well. Always get someone to test ride it before you fork over the cash

To answer the other question, you will need an M (motorcycle) endorsement on your license, go get your permit for it, take the MSF course, get a bike, and begin the learning and fun of Riding.
Good Luck and Ride Safe.
