Hey all,

I finally decided to buy a bike for my commute to work. I ended up getting a good deal on a Honda Nighthawk 250. I haven't ridden it yet since my MSF course doesn't happen until early September, but I am very excited about joining the motorbike crowd. Now to start stocking up on all of the necessary gear.....

Congrats man, good to hear you're taking the msf course and looking at some gear. I'd personally recommend a full face helmet as opposed to the 3/4 or the bucket kind as they offer a bit more protection and well... ever had a june beetle hit you in the face at 100 kph? Not something you'd want to happen

I bet that bike's just calling you every minute begging you to ride her ^_^

Hi Solbergg and welcome! The nighthawk is a great bike, beginner friendly. I know a gal who rode one for YEARS before going to something a little larger; daily commuter rain or shine.

Good luck on the MSF. Meanwhile, feel free to post any questions you have!

Welcome to the forum!

If you can't wait until September, I would recommend getting a friend that is an experienced rider, and have them ride the bike out to an empty parking lot for you. That way they can give you pointers as you putter around!

Thanks for the warm welcomes, guys! I will be taking delivery of the bike on Monday. Not too often that I get to say "I can't wait for Monday!". I went out and picked up a helmet (full) and gloves today, so I'll be ready to do some minor practice right away.

Well, if you get 15 posts on this forum you can (and should) post a picture of your new bike! Make sure you take pics right when you get it, most newbs (myself included) drop their bikes eventually, which makes them less photogenic :-P

Well, I got the bike today. Wow, do I suck at riding so far! I only played around with it a little bit in my back yard. It was quite humorous because the guy selling it gave me a few pointers on how to get it started, change gears, etc. I finally sat down on it, got it into first, and then attempted to get going......suddenly I lose my balace, grab on to the handlebars, which pulls the throttle and I'm out of control for a second and then the bike is down! Phew! At least I didn't hit my house, lol. I guess I got my first laydown in quite quickly, at least it was on soft grass. I rode it a couple of more times and I still am not very smooth with the start, but I'm getting a little more familiar with the feeling of motorbiking everytime. Hopefully soon I will be upgrading to practicing in a parking lot.

You should check out your local MSF course. That will give you a lot of information you won't have to find out the hard way. :) Practice all you can and you should do fine.

Well, I really want to have 15 posts in order to post a pic of my bike, so I'll keep spamming my intro thread. While I wait out until my MSF course in September, I have been reading up on gear trying to get good deals. So far I have purchased (I had nice URL's for each, but apparently I need 15 posts for that too):

Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 Jacket in Blue/Black
Joe Rocket Phoenix 3.0 Gloves in Blue/Black/White
Joe Rocket Orbit Boots in Black
GMAX GM68 Helmet in Blue/Black/White

My personal style preference would be to go all stealth, but I chose to go blue since that's the color of my bike and I want to be more visible to drivers.

My next purchase will probably be a tail bag or maybe just a backpack. I haven't decided yet.
