first bike

Anything above 500cc should be able to keep up with traffic.

Kits for turn signals,horn,etc. can be pretty spendy. Be sure that what you buy already has them installed, many don't.

You don't need a 500 unless it's the law.

Yamaha WR250R, Yamaha XT250, Honda CRF230L, Suzuki DR200SE, Yamaha TW200, etc.

i have a yamaha xt225. it's my first bike, too, and i love it. it's great for riding around. it's not for extended freeway driving though... it'll hit 70 with full throttle... works great for me, though

XT's are great bikes, they're a full 250cc for 08 too. They're also sweet looking rigs.
