Ducati to auction 2005 MotoGP-winning bike

In a surprising move, Ducati will auction the Desmosedici GP5 that won the MotoGP world championship in 2005 during this weekend´s US GP at Laguna Seca. No precedent or reserve has been announced, but I wouldn´t be surprised to see the bike go for more than $1 million. The article below suggests that competing manufactures might be interested in acquiring the bike to aid in the development of their own bikes.

2005 technology is light years in the past in terms of motogp. An enthusiast may buy it, but I seriously doubt any competitive manufacturer will look at it twice, especially since the engine rules are constantly changing which makes the old bikes nothing more than really expensive relics.

hell I´d buy it! This bike has 255hp! The Ducati GP8 only has about 235 and its Japanese competitors only have about 225.
