Hey man, I am in CH right down the way. I would love to go riding!
That said, having another biker with you won't really make you safer. If your skills are still at the level where you aren't comfortable, then you mainly need to just practice more on increasingly fast/curvy roads.
Out of curiosity, how long/how many miles have you gone on your bike?

um about 25 to 30 miles in maybe 4 nights of riding! I know I'm right at the beginning and I want to learn all good SAFE habits. I'm too new on here to be able to PM you. I'm planning on trying to check a couple things on the bike tomarrow night, maintainance wise since I just bought it, and I've never owned any kind of vehicle I didn't know exactly what kind of condition it was in. but next weekend is all about riding. If you'd like to come up that would be awesome! Perhaps give me a few pointers. I've signed up for the BRC in November over in Smithfield at the C.C. there.

Yeah, the BRC is the biggest thing that will help you. I am pretty new as well, been riding maybe 3 months, but I have put about 1500 miles on my bike. The BRC will teach you proper technique, which is the most important thing. Then yeah... practice practice practice.
Tomorrow I am at a seminar, but I might be willing to pop down to raleigh sometime later in the week.
And in all cases, congrats on choosing to ride a motorcycle! After the initial fear/instability wears off, it is the best feeling ever!

Seriously dude! I can't wait to get back on it. I've spent the whole evening here reading and researching different things. I've learned a couple of bits of information that's gonna make me a better rider/owner. I'm trying not to get too cocky with it. But like I said. I want to put some miles on her the 11 and the 12th. If your interested lemme know!

I'm trying for the easternmost award. Goldsboro, here. I ride into Raleigh a couple evenings a month just to see lights, traffic and terrain. I'd love to have a better reason, so if anybody is organizing anything around RTP or Fayetteville, I'd appreciate being allowed to butt in.

oh, by the way... Since I can't PM yet, I'm going to risk being called a hijacker. Here goes:
benztechnc... I am from NW PA and used to be into the recumbent bicycling before I moved to bicycle-unfriendly Goldsboro. There was a Benztech 'bent designer up there a while back. Are you associated with him in any way?
sorry if this breaks the rules... now back tou your regular programming

I'm in Taylorsville between Hickory and Wilkesboro. Although I am taking my bike down for paint currently, I would be more than glad to find some new riding buddies, if you can accept riding with a 20 yr old Honda Shadow.

My wife and I just started riding about a month ago. I'm just so addicted to this now I look for any reason to have to get on the bike and go somewhere. I've almost completely ditched the car and primarily use the bike to make my Winston to Greensboro commute to work. I plan on riding as far into winter as I can. Would love to hook up on a group ride sometime.

Concord here! I would love to ride with others. Warning: Newbie!!
Those in NC, I recently joined Southern Cruisers, I have not had the chance to ride with them. But it looks like a really good club. They have chapters all over the state. You can google search them. They have formal and informal rides.

where are you from?
there are a lot of nice backroads around and even the main stips are relatively traffic free. problem tends to be the roads are in bad shape. not sure what nc has against smooth blacktop though... lol

Im originally from Hickory, NC. Just moved out here so my wife can go to ECU. The beach is ok but i miss the mountains. Do you know of any good twisty roads out here that i dont know about?
Conleyevans
12-18-2008, 12:39 PM
hmmm,... we aren't really known for that. lots of nice curves randomly placed on the local backroads... but no stretches like hickory...
and yeah i went to school in boone, i miss the mountains too.
Folks, I am in the north Kernersville area and soon to be running my own first bike. If any of y'all are interested in getting together to ride a bit, I am in. Need warmer weather (lacking cold weather gear at the moment) and a little time to get my bike and get adjusted to it, but I am really looking forward to getting the wind around me.

Sorry to horn in on your NC Riders thread, but I love NC and may yet return to live there again during retirement (just retired on July 1st 2008).
I have family and friends in eastern NC. I worked in Charlotte back in the 80's. We Loved the people, weather and the surrounding area. We almost stayed but the house in NJ didn’t sell.
In August 2008 my son and I took a 2500mi 10-day road trip through PA and down Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway into NC. We then road east across NC stopping along the way to see the sites and to visit with family in Apex, Elizabeth City, and the Outer Banks (Frisco on Hatteras Island).
I plan to begin a 15k-20k mile cross-country road trip in early May 2009 starting off by taking the southern route. From NJ/MD/DE/VA across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and down the east coast. Primarily I'll be riding on local Rt.17 all the way to Florida.
While in NC I'll also be going through Kitty Hawk and Nags Head then back to Rt.17 via Rt.264. Another side trip will take me to New Bern and Emerald Isle - where we had a home on the beach for 8 years while the kids were little.
I expect to be in central-coastal Florida by May 10th for 3 days (for my 55th birthday with relatives) before starting across the Gulf Coast and on to: NM/CO/UT/AZ/CA/OR/WA/MT/Canada/Alaska/MT//WY/SD/MN/WI/MI/IN, etc.
On the homeward bound leg (in August 2009) I will be coming through KY/TN and southwestern NC again. I'll be taking a few days to ride through the Cherokee / Great Smoky Mts / Nantahala / & Pisgah Nat'l Forests.
I will also be stopping in the town of Spruce Pine (northeast of Ashville) for a few days to do a little digging for gold - (just for fun) - before starting north again on the BRP toward home.
Anyone visiting the NC Riders thread interested in joining me for the NC or other portions of my ride would be very welcome as I will most likely be traveling alone.
Hope to hear from you.:)
