View Full Version : New to the Triumph world and have a few questions....
Im looking to buy a late 60s early 70s triumph for my first bike. What kind of problems are expected of Triumphs? What kind of power and speed do they produce? What kind of fuel milage is normal? Im looking to get a good running daily driver to deal with the cost of fuel. Im not familiar with bikes so I will take all the advice I can get. Im trying to learn as much as I can about these bikes befor I start shopping. Thanks Fred.

Today's Triumphs are very reliable and there are models for most riding styles except for off-road/dirt. Power and speed vary with the different models. Fuel mileage is comparable to other makes with similar displacements. A good website for Triumph info is triumphrat.net

Old Triumphs are good bikes. The electrical systems leave a little to be desired, but there are plenty of solid state bits to replace the old stuff. Triumphs make pretty good power for what they are, and they're easy to work on. They got a bad rep back in the day, but a competent mechanic can keep one on the road with a minimum of fuss. They're wonderful to ride, slim, with good midrange power (what people incorrectly refer to as torque) and they handle nicely for old bikes. You'll like it.
