does it hurt to push the motorcycle back into the garage by the handles?

It's best for the engine to be running when you push the bike, at least that's what my owner's manual says. The gears are only being properly lubricated when the engine is running. Again, on my bike anyway. Read your owner's manual!

If you've ever watched the salesmen or mechanics at a motorcycle dealership, that's exactly how they move bikes around the shop. Therefore, I'd have to say that there's no problem with pushing it by the handlebars.

You'd have to push a bike five hundred miles to hurt anything due to lack of lubrication. Unless you can push it at 60MPH!
