View Full Version : Bike with great mpg
Hello All!
I'm 19 and a new rider looking to get my first bike. I have looked into ninjas and such but i would like to get the opinion of other riders.
I'm looking for something that looks nice but gets great gas mileage (over 40).
price is not an issue but i would like to get used since i'm sure i will be making some mistakes.
any suggestions on bike as well as general riding would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!

hmmmm bikes that's over 40mpg? Can you narrow it down a bit? because MOST of the bikes are over 40mpg :).
As suggested often - go to your local dealers and sit on some bikes to see which one you're comfortable on. I know I can't be comfy on a cruiser unless I sit with my back straight up, but then I can't sit like that for more than 15 min.

All the 250cc bikes will get 60+ mpg. My favorite little cruiser (just based on looks) is the Suzuki GZ250, which is advertised to get 82 mpg. I've heard of them getting 90+ before, though.
If you're into sport bikes, the Ninja 250 will get 70+ mpg.

The Ninja 250, 500 and 650 are renowned for great gas mileage. You can expect an average of 70mpg out of the 250. I have a Ninja 500, I'm currently on a road trip and I calculated my mileage from PA to SC. I'll have the data in my thread in the touring forum when I get back but basically, traveling down I-95 at speeds ranging from 75-95mph I averaged 58mpg. On slower roads in PA averaging around 50-60mph I was averaging 65mpg.
I've achieved 70mpg on the Long Island Expressway, cruising at 55-60mph.

Whats up.
I'm 19 too, I just bought my first bike. I bought a new 2005 Suzuki GZ250. Its great on gas, I bought it when it had 0 miles on it, the guy said I wouldnt have to refill it untill almost 200 miles shown on the bike. Not bad for a beginer as far as I can tell right now.
