Dual sports or adventure bikes have high seats.

Well, I'll just go ahead and be the first to put the obligatory disclaimer:
You really dont need to be looking at an inline 4 supersport as a first bike. This means no Gixxer 600's, R6's, R1's, etc. They are meant for experienced riders and are not forgiving of mistakes that beginners inherently make. It takes skill and a level head to ride these machines. Skill is only acquired through experience, which you dont have. Only you can speak to having a level head. That being said...
You should really look at the Kawasaki Ninja 650r. Im 6'3", 195 and it fits me perfect. Its bars are a bit higher up, so you can sit more upright on it (I still lay down and hug it on the highway though) than most supersports. There is plenty of leg room (i have a 35 inch inseam). It also has plenty of power on tap, you will not get bored with it quickly...but it is beginner friendly and more forgiving of mistakes. Look at either this bike, or the Suzuki SV650. Both are 650 V-twins and plenty fast but beginner friendly. You will find most folks on this board will urge you not to go any higher than this size of bike in the sport bike category and others will even urge you to start smaller. I do not regret my purchase on my 07 Ninja 650. Its stupid fast and still scares me sometimes...Ive got about 550 miles of saddle time in 3 weeks time just FYI.
My 2 cents...
EDIT: Doh! Just realized how old this thread is...LOL...

You could look at the Vstrom, I am 6'2 and I sat on my friends, its a tall bike, but I was comfortable.

hmm I'm also looking for a bike to fit me (6ft 5) and a friend has recommended the Honda VFR750. I'm a beginner and looking for something comfortable to travel long distances on... eventually. Wondering what the VFR is like compared to something like the Ninja 650?
Thanks
Ian
