I am in the market for an old fixer bike for about $500. Don't want a crotch rocket.

I have a nephew that is looking into going to a motorcycle repair school and doing it all on a loan. He has never ridden, nor has he wrenched on a bike.

My goals are to help him see if this is really something he would like to do and at the same time learn to ride for myself.

What would be a good bike for both purposes? I am 6'2" 220.

Thanks

You might want to look on Craigslist. I would imagine you would be able to find an older (pre-90s) fixer upper for well under $500... Several of the 80s era bikes have a Blue Book value of less than a grand, and thats in excellent condition.

any brand that might be easier to work on than another? What cc? 500ish?

I just spent the last few month working on an 81 Suzuki GS550. It was a great bike to work on and learn about bike mechanics. Also there is a great support web site and forum www.thegsresources.com. Your nephew will enjoy working on it and both of you will enjoy riding it.

Why are you bumping this? You haven't responded to anyone's comments or answered any of their questions.

Just soaking it in. No questions were asked and it was slipping down the board. Looking for more opinions.
