Hello,

I am new to this forum, I am from Southern Alberta, Canada and just bought the bike I dreamed of when I was young and could not afforded, a R75/6 from 1976 and it has several problems:

Low compression on the right cyl., thought to take the heads off to check the valves and piston. Adjusted the valve clearance, but that seemed to make it worth.

The taillight (brake light) is on all the time, is that right?

Also on the gauges, the bottom light (signal control light?) always climbs a little, not full as when the turning light is on, just a little.

Of course as with most R's, the tach needle is off, how to fix this, can it be opened and the needle replaced by a new one?

The bike came from the US and has miles, can the background be simply changed?

Hope thus are not to many questions in one new thread.

Cheers,

Joerg K.

Joerg,
First of all, welcome to the forum! Glad that you found us. It would be great if you could go to New Member Introductions (http://www.motorcycleforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58) and introduce yourself to the entire forum. Tell everyone all about yourself, bikes you're currently riding, where you ride & what kind of riding you like to do, etc.

Now, for your questions...I'm afraid I can't help you much there. I have no knowledge of this particular model of bike. I will say this...if you were suggesting changing the odometer from miles to kilometers, I believe it would take much more than simply changing the background, because you'd then have to adjust the counter to reflect the new "mileage" ("kilometerage"?). In other words, if the odometer currently reads 40,000 miles, you'd have to change it to display 64,000 kilometers. Also, the system would still be calibrated to measure miles and not kilometers, so it would have to be recalibrated somehow, if that's possible.

Sorry I didn't have any more answers for you. Perhaps someone else will be along that will be more helpful.

Good luck,
Tim

Thanks Tim,

You are right about the counter, it would still be in miles. I will try to find the whole unit on eBay in metric, maybe even close to my counter reading.

I will try to introduce myself to the forum.

Cheers,
