I'm looking for some advice about which mesh jacket to buy.

I have a Joe Rocket Phoenix and like it. It has a liner...not real sure why

It seems as though when it is cold the liner is not enough and it doesn't take much for the liner to become too much. Did that make any sense at all?

It has armour in the forearms, elbows and back. There are a lot to choose from. Just do some google searches for motorcycle protective gear and check sites like denniskirk.com, Olympia.com, etc.

I have an Olympia Recon mesh jacket, which was kind of an impulse buy because it's only $60 at motogearoutlet.com in the clearance section.

It's pretty good for $60, there are plenty of better jackets out there but I think it will be nice on the days where it's just too hot to wear leather, or if I need to look a little more casual. The armor in it seems to me to be good quality.

Thanks for the advice. I've always wondered about the purpose of a liner with a mesh jacket too. I live in Minnesota so I have a month or so before I need to decide. I like the looks of the Joe Rocket jacket.

I have a Fieldsheer jacket. It's mostly mesh, but has decent leather on the elbows, shoulders, and up the back. It has hard armor, and offers very good protection for a summer jacket. Yes, it's a tad warmer than a pure mesh design, but I prefer the better protection. I ride all summer, in Phoenix. I find the liner quite useful too. I ride to work at 4:45-5:30 PM, and return home @ 6:15-7:00 AM...and in the fall and spring it's in the upper 80s to upper 90s at times during the days, and sometimes in the mid-to-upper 40s in the morning. I can tell you, that liner feels good. Also, there are times when I leave the valley when it's in the 90s, and ride somewhere where it may only be in the 70s, and then cools off later in the day to the 50s/60s. Once again, the liner feels good.
Unfortunately, it appears that they no longer make the model of Fieldsheer that I own. Too bad, mine's getting a little ratty, and I'd like to buy another one. I can say that it's been a good jacket for me though. You could try powersportsnetwork.com and/or epinions.com for reviews on gear.
Good luck,
Tim

What kind of advice do you need? I sell just about every make and model from most brands so I know my stuff:D

I'm a deputy with the sheriff's office here and I'm looking for a mesh jacket wear while riding to and from work. I need the jacket on warm days to cover my uniform shirt so some nut doesn't run me off the road, also, I don't like my collar brass pounding me on the side of my face while I'm heading down the road. The idea of having some protection from road rash is good too. I've read most of the reviews and still haven't a clue which jacket to choose. I guess I'd like at least to have good zippers that won't break or tear loose and some decent armour.

Olympia makes excellent mesh/textile jackets with top notch armor and protection as well as cortech, joe rocket, teknic, and many others...whats your budget? and what do you ride?

I think that I should be able to find a good jacket that will last many riding seasons for between $130 to $200, so, that is my budget. And being from Minnesota I ride a Victory Vegas.
