C'mon guys, let's get some Triumph stuff posted. I know you lime juicers are out there. I'll start with a question. How many of you belong to a Triumph Owner's Group? I'll answer my own question first. I don't belong, but I used to own a Triumph and still follow the local RAT pack closely, even subscribing to their newsletter. The local Triumph/Guzzi dealer is a great shop and has lots of activities for the riders as well as a great place to hang out for riders of any brands (even non-Brits like me!). OK, now it's your turn.

No British bikes at this time BUT my wife IS British (which she reminds me of EVERY day!), does that count?! :D At one time I did have a 1970 Norton Commando 750… as purchased a classic ‘basket case’ in multiple boxes! I’m very ashamed about this one – I managed to get about 85% of the boxes together and then for whatever STUPID reason, I gave up and sold it! WHY to this day I just don’t know…. Just one of those past regrets we all tend to build up over the years?! At least years later I did get to have my hands on a basket Triumph 650 (single carb version, maybe 1971 or so?!) that belonged to a bud, and managed to get it running for him. ;-)

All I can say is I can’t help but feel from my little experience, that Trumps, BSA’s, Nortons and whatever from the U.K. all seem to fall under yet another of those pre-conceived notions of ‘lack of quality’ (or more then realized thereof?!). I dunno… what I remember of the Norton and Triumph I at least worked on that these were extremely high-quality, hand-machined, very articulate pieces I was handling – least ways that’s what I felt?! So why oh why does my wife still go on: “The British know better then to buy ANYTHING made in Great Britain”!? Aw well….. apples and oranges again far as I can see… ;-)

Currently I got a NON-Leather Biker Style Jacket made in (gasp?) Great Britain (England to be precise). It works great, does the job, and nothin’ died in it’s creation…. Amazing?! :) Beyond that, I'm still hoping for at least to have one running Trump or Norton someday, to make up for the one I didn't finish.... ;)

A few years ago I was looking for an old Triumph like something in the 50's through 1970 or so. I did see a few and got to say the paint and chrome was usually in good shape compared to other newer bikes. Very little rust. I didn't find the one for me but still want an old Bonny some day again. I had a 1965,and 69 Triumph as well as a 1959 BSA.

...and now you can buy the retro Truimphs. They look close to the original styling and, if you can believe it, they run well and they don't leak!

This new 900Thruxton I have runs smooth as silk compared to the old 750 I had years ago. And so far very dependable. What a hoot to ride it handles like a dream. The only problem is when I stop for gas someone always wants to talk about what year it is (O yea I had one like that back when:D)

My Thrux developed a small leak - which was fixed by the dealer at no charge with no questions. Hasn't leaked since.

Most of the 'leak' stories I've heard with the new Bonnie family are from guys who have modified the motors, and are using non-OEM cylinder blocks that leak at the base gasket. Never heard of a stocker leaking there. My leak was on the primary cover.

Not a drop But in all fairness my 1973 750 never leaked. Nor did my 1975 Shovelhead. I work on my own and leaks are not tolerated ;) You can overcome almost anything with patience and aircraft products.

I have a Triumph. It is a 1998 Thunderbird Sport. Does anyone know if there are any clubs or groups on Long Island, NY?

I picked up my 2002 Triple 955cc a year ago and love it to bits! The build quality is very good and up until yesterday I have never had anything go wrong! Was turning bike in the garage to get it out and a wire came out of the ignition switch. After checking, it looks like the switch is a sealed unit and is held on to the top yoke with rivets! Why are things not made simple? A nut and bolt would have been good!
Anyone who can help - please post.

Thanks.
