It seems that every time I turn on the news, they are arguing about the MPG and emission standards being raised for cars. Do motorcycles follow the exact same standards in your state as cars do. I know that I can get a Grandfather clause on my old Honda, but I don't even bother to put it on the street. i think the black 2 cycle smoke might bug some people.lol.
What are the regulations in your state. Does it affect the registration on your bike, or just the ability to get tags? I can register mine, but I have not even tried to get tags. i hope they don't read this and get me for tax evasion!

Yikes, sounds like here too (South Dakota)! Just pays yer' annual 'Tags' money and they pretty much leave you alone (which is just fine with me). :D And I thought Oklahoma (former OKC Resident) was easy?! ;) On the other hand, California was (still is?) a Nightmare!! Nuff' said.

don't have it in MA, guys just check lights, brakes and done. The first time I had inspection done I asked about it and one of them said "the CO level on a bike is sh!t, who cares about them!"
Oh and I think Oklahoma doesn't have inspection at all (at least for cars and motorcycles) since the gov (or whoever) passed the emission law

There are no inspections where I live in Illinois for cars or motorcycles. I know that there are car and truck vehicle inspections in and around Chicago however. I'm don't know if motorcycles also get checked there.

Here in Ohio there are no inspections for the average citizen's vehicle. When I got plates for my motorcycle the thing was nowhere near the BMV office. It could have had a big rusty spike on the front, shot flames out the back, and be equipped with police lights and according to them it would be road legal. At least until I got pulled over.
There used to be emissions checks in a couple counties but they got rid of those. I guess the government really isn't as concerned with pollution as we're led to believe. Can I get a 60mpg diesel now? What's that? It pollutes too much?

No Jersey does a lights/horn/equipment check.
No emissions. No sound meter that I have seen either, but I have stock pipes, so they may not have bothered.

IN Missouri we deal with both safety and emissions for cars. I think bikes only have to be safety inspected. It can be every year unless you opt for the two year tags.

You are correct...VA does have emissions laws. However, if you review VA code § 46.2-1177. Emissions inspection program (http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+46.2-1177), you'll note that note that motorcycles are exempt from emissions inspections in VA.

I don't think my bike would pass emissions since the previous owner re-routed the gas tank fume overflow to go straight out instead of being filtered. :( I'm trying to find out California's laws but I can't seem to find anything but articles about people wanting the current laws to change.

Does anybody know if IN has emissions laws for bikes?? I know some of the counties have emission laws for cars but ours isn't one that I know of. I have heard some people from other counties say they've had to get their vehicle tagged in other counties because their car wouldn't pass the emission laws for their county.

In texas we have emissions for cars but not for motorcycles, I don't think any of them would pass if we did
