I guess they made the final announcement on Friday. The DMG, which is spearheaded by Jim France of NASCAR and Roger Edmondson, president of the Grand American Road Racing Association.

The thing that I though was hilarious, or maybe even a cause for concern, that when asked, Edmonson admitted he did not even know the numbers on how much interest there is in motorcycle racing.

Way to go into a market blind. That makes me feel comfortable with the new head honchos! They say they won't take legal control until 2009, but they are set to get their hands on the operations ASAP.

What do you bet they flub it up, and then decide to reneg?

I bet you they back out. They have this great way of messing things up. It is hard enough for them to get their car circuits up and running, let alone take on more of a load. I think that the AMA is dumb for giving them any control before they legally take charge. Kicking the tires might be all they are doing. i hope they have good lawyers, or the damage might be permanent.

.... so much for backing out...

Anyone who watches a variety of racing must admit that NASCAR is some of the closest racing on the planet. The AMA has lacked any sort of competition in their 'premier' class (Superbike) for nearly a decade now (last non-Suzuki to win was 2001 (or 2) when Nicky Hayden won his championship). When every other superbike series in the world has had a variety of makes winning, the AMA has just flat FAILED with their rules package. They NEED DMG and the expertise they bring to the sport.

My $.02.

Just curious as to how the rules favor Suzuki over the other Japanese inline-4 bikes? I would think the rules would be the same for all 1000cc inline 4 bikes.

It's a valid question that I'm not qualified to answer. I didn't actually state that the rules 'favor' Suzuki over the others, just that there is a notable lack of competitive racing in that class (where other superbike series' have a lot).

yeah like the race today and all the ones before it both this year and last: who is fighting for first, mat mladin and ben spies, but wait wheres third? only 10 seconds behind. what bikes are 1st and 2nd? factory suzukis, it gets kinda boring so i stick to motogp, exept the supebike race today was nice you know mladin and spies trying to kill each other and all, driving each other into walls and off the track very dangerouse but thats whats fun to watch.

yeah, 3rd was 10 seconds behind - and it was Mat and Ben's teammate on another 'zook. :(

Saw this and thought I'd revive it inlight of the recent news that 3 out of 4 of the big four announced they will not be involved in AMA racing next year.
This is due to DMG limiting factory involvement and rules governing of all things Hp and equality in technology.
Hmm.. that sounds like NASCAR. Limit development to make things appear FAIR. Thats why Toyota has to run a chevy derived engine instead of a Toyota SUPERIOR engine
