What is it that they learned in the racing arena that made them switch form an overvalve engine to a dual overhead cam?

I really thought the Ulysses were a great bike, albeit not for track racing. When it comes to their sportsbikes, do they keep away from Hog bellies for a reason?

This engine was made in Austria by another company, but Buell claims it was "made to their specifications."

What is the big deal? If Buell starts going for engines made by different companies for different models, what will this do for the Buell engine parts market?

They are only a little over 20 years old, and they are already spreading things out far and wide. I guess HD is the father, what was I to expect.?

HD is a distant uncle. Erik Buell marches to his own drum, believe me.
The Helicon motor was designed not to Buell specs per se, but rather, to meet the design criteria set forth by Buell. Other companies also submitted designs, the Helicon just won out. Buell is not married to the push rod motor any more than it was married to an air-cooled motor, despite what the press touts. Erik is searching for the right components to fit his needs and this should show anyone how far he'll go to gain the results he's looking for.:D
