In early 1952 Suzuki began the manufacturing of motorcycles. However, their early models were quite literally motorized bicycles. Until the mod 1970's, Suzuki manufactured motorcycles that only had two-stroke engines. The largest of these models was the water cooled triple cylinder GT750.

The East German Grand Prix racer Ernst Degner was hired by Suzuki who went on to win the 50cc F.I.M. road racing world championship in 1962. In addition, Suzuki was the first Japanese motorcycle manufacturer to win a world motocross championship when Joel Robert did so in 1970. He won the 250cc title.

In 1976 Suzuki introduced their first four stroke engine. These motorcycles were the GS400 and the GS750.

Suzuki has gone on to establish their motorcycle as a well engineered piece of machinery.

Also in 1976, Suzuki won their first 500 title with a RG500.

And then 10 years later in 1986 they built an RG500 that could top 140 MPH! Now they are collectors items.
