Hi guys and gals, do any of you own a fighter, if so what do you ride and what do you think would make the best fighter?

I'm wondering just what makes a street fighter? Are these stoplight to stoplight dragsters or what? Please forgive an old greybeards ignorance.

A streetfighter is a stripped down sportbike (like minus all fairings) with a different headlight. Kinda like a sportbike chopper if you will. Something similar to a naked bike.

sorry folks I have been offline for a while problems with the isp, all sorted now. Yes as you rightly said a streetfighter is a naked sports bike, but it is also so much more. It's kind of a lifestyle, much as a chopper is. The appeal is in personalising a bike while keeping the performance or even improving upon it. The main reason most people get into streetfighters these days is because they have a spill and the first thing that breaks is the plastics and they are very expensive to repair, so out of necessity a streetfighter is born and the bug takes over. I edit an online streetfighter mag, but I am not allowed to go into details about it here, as I would be breaking the self promotion rules, but if anyone wants to know more about it I will be happy to chat with you about it in email or pm's.
The cult is very popular in europe and has been growing for many years. It's very adictive as is any form of custom bike building. The idea is to have a bike that looks really aggressive and has outstanding performance. The most popular bikes to fighter seem to be Suzuli's, as the parts are easily interchangeable and the GSXR seems to be the most popular Suzuki to fighter.

You got a great bike there buddy, it's also a good starting point to have a play and build a one off special streetfighter. Fancy a go at it?

I like the street fighter concept to a certain degree. The nakedness is appealing though I'm not diggin' the weird angles of the seat cowls and the ill fitting headlights. I ride a XB12R. Though Buell refuses to call it a sportbike, I think if it looks like a sportbike and handles like a sportbike, then it's a sportbike. Of course, with it's inability to compete head to head with the mighty Big Four's exquisite race reps, I think the Buell's niche really is as a factory street fighter (XBS) and modern interpretation of a cafe racer (XBR). I kinda hate the moniker, "Sportfighter". Sounds dumb...

after you wreak and price new plastics IMHO thats the only way to go. Who would have ever thought that pressed milk jugs would cost so much after they have been painted red!!!! lol

I'm halfway done with streetfightering my CBR out, and I"m not doing it because I wrecked the plastics. I like the rough look of the fighter, and apparently you can out perform stock bikes of the same model with the lightened load? I'm not sure, but I'll see!

A streetfighter is any sportbike that is stripped down to perform better and look more aggressive. You can read more about them on customfighters.com

Now, I dont know if you would consider this a streetfighter cause it started as a cruiser. I have definetly given it a more aggressive look as per the definition, as well as Drag bars and a Very Loud Drag Pipe. I dont have the double head light cause I dont like em, But I have no fairings... lol anyway, You decide....

Warrior is categorize as a power cruiser. We can strip it down and customized as aggressively as we want, and still won't be as light and nimble as a strip down sportsbike.

I'm a fan of the stripped down industrial looking bikes. This kinda seems like the whole cafe thing. Sure, it's sweet if done right, but most people just strip off a few parts, bolt on some "cafe" handlebars and call it a cafe racer, even though its a stock bike with differnt handle bars and some fairings missing.

I like street fighters, and if I ever went sportsbike, I'd be street fighter-ized.
It seems like the same mentality behind the initial bobber craze in the 1940s, only with sportsbikes. There is some intresting ****, and its creative.

I like streetfighter bikes ducati especially. I have seen yamaha MT01 and even seen pictures of honda CB1000R. Mainly 900cc to 1600cc, 1400mm(approx) long wheelbase, weighing 210kgs and cool aggressive unmatched looks.

I own a streetfighter if you wish to call it that. To me its more of a low fighter. Looks like a lowrider but with a 1260 cosworth tuned suzuki engine. ZXR rear suspension set up GSXR USD forks extended bu 4 inches. One off stressed member frame goosenecked. Custom paint and not much chrome. Basically it does what its supposed to do with minimal comfort lol. Looks more dragster but actually goes round bends.Built in 1994 and nothing has changed to this day.

This sounds interesting. You need to post a picture of this bike.
