What are the differences between the bike engines that BMW uses and other Motorcycle manufacturers. From sight alone, I can tell that there are some major difference. Do these differences contribute to your decision to ride or not to ride a BMW?

with the airhead engine, it is twin horizontally opposed pistons, versus vertical pistons. the ride on a bmw is like driving a car. very little vibration, of course having a shaft drive helps too. with a bmw, you can drop them off a small cliff, get up and start it and ride away (assuming you didnt go over the cliff). i just bought three weeks ago, a 34 yo R90/6 with 60k miles and it runs sweet. one owner. i am a snob for German engineering. its like owning a rolex. even though my bike is 34 yo i will probably own it for the rest of my life (49). cant say that for other bikes, esp since i paid 3500$ for it.
