I'm curious what the opinion of this forum is regarding Ohlins versus Wilbers for a BMW R100GS. My greatest interest is regarding what your thoughts are of performance in the GS application, overall value, any service issues or experiences, and relative quality. I am a somewhat big rider at 6'3" and 220lbs so if anyone else around my size has additional feedback, it would definitely be appreciated. Thanks for any insight.

Ohlins is a great quality shock though I have seen more of my ADV GS riding buddies use the Wilbers.
My Ducati loves the Ohlins and so do I, they are easily rebuilt, readily available by many dealers (Wilbers are not) and this translates into parts availability...I sell Ohlins parts, shocks, springs and components so if I can help let me know!

Hi BMW Guy,

By chance I stumbled over your request and well, had to register and answer right away. My Name is Dirk and I work as a salesman and translator for Wilbers Products GmbH, the mother company in Germany.

Wilbers shocks are all custom build and we chose springs and internal shim package referring to your weight, riding style and field of operation. As all Wilbers shocks are special constructions it is no problem at all to build them longer or shorter to therewith increase or decrease the ride height! At Wilbers all those special constructions are self-evident thus at no extra costs!

Delivery time from Germany to the USA should be approx. 3 weeks – when ordered express assembly and shipping (higher transportation costs and a surcharge for express assembly – total of approx. 100 $ - weight related) one can have his Wilbers shock within 10 days! We offer 5 years warranty on shocks and lifelong warranty on fork springs!

Momentarily we have a couple of service centres in the USA run by our trusted and reliable partners. Those have been to Germany for training and are now experts in rebuild and modification of Wilbers shocks!
If you need their contact information, please take a look at our international website motorcycle-suspension under the topic “Service Points”.

In case of questions naturally you might also contact me at any time (please do not send PM but Emails).

I hope that you do not regard this post as advertising or anything – just wanted to inform you about Wilbers availability… They are available worldwide!

Cheers,
Dirk

PS. website and email address had to be modified as I do not have the necessary 15 posts... Sorry if I somehow violated any forum rules - I apologize!
