Hey guys, I just bought a 1985 Shadow VT700 The gas tank is faded and allso the previous owner put some decals on that i wanna get off. Anyone know what a good rate is to have it repainted black. Or anyone in miami own or work at a shop and can give me a hook up on doin this?

Average price at my shop to paint a tank black is $250. That would include stripping down the old paint, prime, base-coat, clear-coat and buffing. Dent repair, two-tone, or graphics are extra, the cost there depends on the amount of time involved, and the color choice. I can usually paint the logos back on it for about the same price as a decal.
I've seen much cheaper prices, but I've yet to see a better finish. Don't go by price alone, make sure you take quality into consideration, or you may be looking to get it repainted again real soon.
$4 for a rattle can of Rust-O-Leum.
:)
You do realize if you paint the tank, it will make the rest of the tins look bad. Then you'll paint them, and the frame will look lame.
When you're done painting, you'll start noticing the pitting in the chrome...

Yes this is true, that's why I always tell people "you are never through with your bike"
Everytime you finish a project, you will find two more to start.
I'm the type that wants people to look at my bike and go "Damn that's sweet" or "How much did that cost"
I dump piles of money into my toys...........parts, paint, chrome, etc. I guess spending it on the bike is better than spending it on hookers and liquor. At least I still have something left to enjoy the morning after. And the old lady is easier to deal with when I'm in the garage all night instead of the bars.
Crappy...The old owner put some skull decals that im not too happy with and i would like to just touch up the tank with some flat black paint...But i guess i should get some coverup decals...Any more input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

That era of Shadows seem to always have the rear duck's ass fender that fades more than the rest of the bike. Maybe because it's plastic? But the side panels don't, so I'm not sure.

My bike is the same, faded to the yellow plastic underneath the ass fender because it's directly exposed upward. Side plastic panels retained the original color.
well the side pannels and fenders are fine on mines its just the tank...but maybe ill get like 2 cans and touch up all of them and make it look nicer...maybe even sand down the tank to have a smooth surface to paint on.
