79 XR 500 question, engine whine

i just looked at a 79 XR 500, I would like to buy it, but when it is running, the engine wakes a whining sound. The guy that is selling said that that started when the decompression assy came apart. Is this something to be concerned about? It runs VERY well!! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Some bikes whine. My Virago whined and my Ninja does some but if it started after something came apart I would be concerned.

The decompression release came apart, so the seller said. Could this be a crankshaft bearing?

The compression release would be in the cylinder head. it's hard to tell what the sound is without actually hearing the bike.
