I've purchase my second sport bike (2007 Yamaha YZF-R6) and I was talked into purchasing an extended warranty with it. It will cover the first three services of the bike. Which total @ $490 (600 mile - $110 , 2400 - $120, 4000 miles - $260).

The warranty was $1200 and covers the bike for 5 years. At the 2400 mile service, I have to pay out of pocket for the valve adjustment which is more than $270 dollars....grrr.

So, at first look it doesn't seem worth it. However, does anyone have any advice on whether or not this is worth it? Has anyone had a yamaha sport bike with more than 6K mile on it and had any issues?

Regards,
Aaron

I had a issue on year 2 of owning my ZX12R Ninja. Labor in our area was 80.00 an hour. Just in labor alone, it would have cost me over 400.00 just in labor and that was not including parts. At that point I would have used over 700.00, with the 5 year extended warranty, I still had three years of coverage and there have been small things here and there, but I got my money back and then some. Just the whole peace of mind things helps out also. Just knowing if something catastrophic happens to the engine, it will be fixed over a five year period was worth it to me.

Thanks. I guess the good thing about it is that you can get your money back if you don't use it. or less the pro-rated amount.

Thanks again for your time.
