throttle cable

i was trying to put my new grips on and it was so tight on the throttle side i broke the throttle cable from twisting so hard i guess. its a 78 xs 400- do i need an exact part or can i use any cable or a universal , i haven't even looked yet but any help is appreciated

You can pick up an exact replacement cable from places like Dennis Kirk. Never go with universal for those because they never seem to fit or work right.
