Newbie all over again

I haven't rode in 32 years and know there has been a ton of changes since I did. I used to own a XLCH back in the day but figured I'd start back up after my long layoff.
Even though I started out with a H.D. I'm going to go another route. I've thrown my leg up over most of then out there. Honda, Kawa,Suzk,Yams. Are thier any pitfalls I should be aware of with any of these or should I just go with the one that feels best to me and ride out the door? I have to say Kawasaki and Honda are probably the one I pick. Any imput would be appreciated.

I would say they are all about the same reliability wise, so no problems there.

the only things I can say if Yamahas are bad about tranny problems. Such as shifting hard and when you get one to 20K miles tranny slips out of gear at highway speeds.
