First off i don't want to offend any of you "I bleed harley" guys, but i was wondering if anyone had any imput on buells. buell and harleys are close cousins, as i am sure most of you know. i have ridden mostly sportbikes and have lost intrest. the body styling and some of the mechanical systems, such as the belt drive, really have me interested. Any imput or previous experience with buells would be great. thank.

Never had one nor rode one so this is all hearsay......

I have heard that they handle well but don't have near the power of a 1200cc Japanese sportbike nor the speed but really what earthly reason doe anyone have a need to go 180+mph like the 1200+cc Japanese sportbikes can go right off the showroom floor? That is unless you race and even then there are better things out there to race than one of those, like the 600's,750's and the liter bikes.

However you don't see them on every corner on cruise night. Myself I like them simply because of that. If I had the money I would probably buy one if that's what I wanted. If you like it then what's the worry?

I've owned a Yamaha R1, a Honda CBR and an ol' school FJ600.

Out of all those bikes I could have never imagined riding an American made Buell. I saw my addiction on the floor of a chopper showroom and started to get educated. Bottom line? Buell's hold up like a rock gliding on stuck pavement.

The engineering that has gone into these bikes is unreal.

I own a XB9S and holy s#$^! This bike is fun. And I don’t mean the type of fun that you get riding a mechanical bull in a bar with a drunk scantly clad woman. I mean the type of fun you get when sitting on a rocket with an incredibly fine well trained female who races bikes for a living. This thing has torque, and a crap load of it. Off the line I can take pretty much any 1000cc bike. The only down side is top speed for these bikes. Once I hit about 120 I’m pretty much left in the dust. But then again these bikes are called streetfighters for a reason. They’re meant to tear of up the city. And they do that better than any bike I’ve ridden and owned.

All I have to say brutha is go test drive one if you can. There’s something to be said about a V-Twin slapped into a race frame body and it’s better said going 0-60 in 3 seconds.

Hey thanks for the great reply...i really appreciate that you have ridden jap bike so you have something to compare too. The only thing I don’t like is that you are already having what sounds like a good time (I mean girls…rockets…speed, what more do you need?) one that bike that I have been looking at. I have taken the 9 out for a test drive, as well as the 12cg. I love ‘em both as far as looks and handling is concerned, but I am just weary of the reliability. Every guy at my work, and I mean every one, has a Harley, and they swear by them but the always seem to be spinning the wrenches on the weekends. I’m not sure if it is just an excuse to be close to there bikes or what but I don’t really have the time, I guess I am young, but I just want to get out and ride. I am most concerned about the air-cooled system.

I'll put it to you this way, I have a buddy that has some serious miles on a 1200 Sporty and it never lets him down. So engine reliability shouldn't be a problem.

Buell really has a nice bike. Some of the features may still be a little ahead of their time. They are a better bike, but I'm not sure people are ready to accept some of the changes.

It's interesting to see the combination of cutting edge features(gas in frame, underslung exhaust, oil in swingarm, rotor mounted to the rim, etc.) in combination with a motor whose basic design has been with us for 50 years. It just has personality.

Anyone notice some of the Japanese bikes are moving the exhaust lower? And for the ones moving it to under the seat, didn't they see Biker Build Off where the guy's ass caught on fire? :D

i've got a 2003 xb9s and i love it. have had zero mechanical problems with it...and i've wrecked it. rode it home from the crash. a new rider peg, a new front turn signal, a little work on the front brake and it's good as new (for the most part). actually still riding it with the bent handlebars. i'm used to it now and don't feel the need to change...even though i've got the new bars in my closet.

anyway, it's a great bike. a lot of fun. it hits a wall around 110...but who needs to go that fast?

they are for short people - the frame geometry is tight to acheive the handling


at 6-1, i was cramped.

i had a BAD problem keeping it on 2 tires,

the buells now have thier own motor.

I think you can find information on a Buell bike by checking out the Buell dealers in your area.
Go to a site call PowerSportsGateway.com/Locator.aspx and you will find all the Buell dealers or any other manufacturer dealers within your part of the country.;)
