i've got a 86 honda rebel 450. i;ve cleaned carbs, put in carb kit. i cant get it to idle at 1200 the lowest is about 1400. i only have one throttle cable on it , that seems to work fine though. could that be the problem. or could loose valves cause the high idle. i adjusted them .005 on intake .006 on exhaust but not sure on how much drag on feeler gauge i should feel please help rockinrodtex@netzero.net

Couple different things could be going on. One is a carb slide hanging up because of a burr on the slide or something. I'm not exactly sure what type of carb your bike has but it's either ones where the slide works on a vacuum diaphram or ones where the cable activates the slides either through the cable itself or through a linkage. The second is a cable that is too tight and holding the carbs open some. Take both cables off and see if the idle goes down. Make sure that you have the idle screw backed out enough. The third thing is a vacuum leak causing a lean condition making the idle go up. One way to see if it is the rubber intakes or hoses are leaking is as the bike is running spray them with carb cleaner. When the RPM changes you found the leak. The carb cleaner will temporarily seal them.
