hi i have recently bought a CBR1000F-K '89 and its great apart from one problem. when i start the bike cold it starts fine but when i have been riding it and stop for fuel for example the thing wont start! there doesnt seem to be enough power in the battery. but if i leave it ten mins and go to start it again it will start (just about). this seems the same whether or not i ride with lights on. So i have replaced the battery but it still does the same and its very annoying.

any help would be appreciated

probably coil. A bad coil malfunctions after it becomes warm.

A bad battery will do the same.

Yup, the above given reason might have the problem.

If I am reading your post correctly, you don't have a problem once the motor is running right? It's after the bike has warmed up, you shut the bike off (like getting gas) then, dispite a new battery, your motor struggles to crank at proper speed and long enough to catch and start. If I'm on the right track, you may have one of a couple potiential problems. The first item I would look at is your starter motor. The stator and field windings in the starter motor are made up of very fine wire windings that, when cold (contracted) make a good enough connection to start your engine normally. However, once heated up (expanded), make poor contact causing your starter to labor ( known as a dragging starter) I believe your starter is brushless (could cause the same symptoms) so I won't even go there. It would also be wise to insure that your battery cable connections, at both ends, have good clean contacts.
If your starter motor tests out good (your dealer should have the ability to load test your starter warmed up), then you may have excess carbon build up on your pistons caused by low grade fuel and/or a rich fuel mix. Once warmed up, the carbon glows red hot and much like a deisel engine, trys to pre-ignite the fresh fuel vapors when the piston of a warm engine comes up on compression. Your starter motor is now working extra hard to overcome the pre-ignition caused by the glowing carbon that is trying to cause your piston to go in the opposite direction then your starter is. The cure, short of tearing your engine down to clean the carbon off, ya might try a can of decarbonizer. It's sold in the marine industry as an areosol and is sprayed directly into the intake via the carbs or throttle body while the engine is warmed up and running at a raised idle. Once the contents of the whole can is mostly used up, drop to an idle while expending the remaining decarbonizer till the engine stalls. Let sit and soak for the recommended time, then fire it up and hold at about 3/4 throttle till the smoke (old carbon) clears. If your build up is severe, you may have to use a few applications. Back in the day we used to cheat with a spray bottle of H2O using the same method with some success. But we we're dealing with air cooled carbureted motors with lots of stroke. I wouldn't recommend it on your bike. Anyway,I hope this helps point you in the right direction if nothing else.
