Curious to know, was driving on the highway when I saw what looked to be a Ninja 250 pass by doing a wheelie. Didn't catch a good glimpse of it, might have been a 600 but the tyres seemed thinner than a 600's.

I've heard that trying to pop a wheelie after 2nd gear is pretty hard on a Ninja 250.

If you're asking what gear you can lift it in, a lot depends on your skill level. You'll notice in the above video is a classic on the rear pegs, clutch it up wheelie. Once you're on the balance point you should be able to adjust speed, slowing or increasing speed as you see fit.

Either way if you really want to learn how to wheelie, the pros I talk to tell me you should get a "fiddy" (50cc Pit Bike) and practice $1000 worth of plastic.

Hah, I'm in luck. Saw a "fiddy" going for around $100 the other day. Going to see if I can still find it, hopefully the guy hasn't sold it yet.

Boy sometimes I think my fingers are drunk--

Buying a Fiddy will save you about $1000 in plastic the first time you loop it.

That sounds much better. :P I did think it was strange that a fiddy would cost $1000.

On my wife's old 09 Ninja 250, I tried before we bought it and just shy of redlining and dumping the clutch I couldn't get the front tire to feel light, never mind lift it.. sitting "properly" of course.

There's a reason for the guy in video to stand on the passenger pegs...

I got my '94 to lift the front wheel about 6 inches, sitting normally, 1st gear clutch pop from a stop. And that was a well-worn clutch on a bike that wasn't running 100% right. You should've gotten SOME lift on a 2009 unless there was a big problem.

Ya the big problem is me.. 6'3" 270lbs heh. And no I didn't actually dump the clutch from anything above 5000rpm.. I wasn't trying to stunt, I was trying to see how easily the bike would try to kill her if she screwed up since it was her first bike and she wanted to go into her msf with some knowledge (I taught her some basics, that I learned in my MSF).

A 250R is about the safest bike you can put a newbie rider on...especially a girl. They're light, nimble, easy to see and not very powerful. You've got to really try, or do something really careless to lose control of one. Nothing's impossible, but the circumstances have to be pretty extreme.

Right.. and that is what I was testing for. She was concerned because I stuck her on a snowmobile (I had 2 a 97 700RMK and a 03 700 ProX) I stuck her on the proX because it was the newer nicer one, and she would apply throttle, nothing, apply more, nothing, a bit more and boom the sled is gone and she's standing there with a puturbed look on her face. And she didn't want the same thing to happen on a bike.

So she rode the 09 250R for a month, went into Winter storage, went up for Sale in January, Finally sold in May iirc, so she rode it for a month or two in the spring and now has a 2011 Ninja 650R. Ones rolling and full throttle the front end will feel light, I haven't lifted the front end. She did accidentally pop the clutch at 2000-3000rpm once and lifted the front a foot in the rain.. that was entertaining.
