Motorcycle accessories can be very expensive. Windshields, chrome accessories, GPS devices, stereo systems and backrests can run hundreds of dollars each. There are thousands of customization options available. I have never used one as versatile as my $7 bungee cargo net.

My cargo net remains strapped across the back seat of my bike at all times that I do not have a passenger. It's what makes those little “errand runs” possible for me. From a trip to the video store, to an emergency ride for toilet paper, the bungee net never fails to preform. It can hold a bulky spare helmet or thin notebook tightly to the seat. Even large bags of cat food can be secured under the net.

A word of caution

I have had a single incident involving a gallon of laundry detergent and a hook that wasn't securely attached to the bike. Going over some rough railroad tracks, I left the detergent sliding down the road behind the motorcycle. As you can imagine, it wasn't pretty, folks. The cap bounced off and half the container of purple goo made quite the mess. I was able to salvage enough for about sixty loads. On the bright side, I was able to make another ride for more detergent that much sooner!

What accessories have you bought for your bike that are indispensable to you?

Off the top mirror extender/risers I would say was money well spent. For under $20, I get to use all of my mirror now. The spot mirrors were also worthwhile.

OMG...Dods that was just too funny...does your cargo net stretch out though? Mine is and the hooks fall off! Just thinking of all the bubbles when it rains makes me laugh...

Oh something cheap I have bought....probably some winter gear that keeps me warm....I wear it in the fall, winter, and spring!!! anything that covers my neck...is good!

It's still springy after 3 years. Leaving them in the sun will shorten the lifespan of the bungee material. I'll usually get at least 5 years out of one.

Maybe if I didn't shop so much, I wouldn't have to stretch it so far:coffeescreen: I use it for my coat and pants sometimes too...I may need another one soon....where did you get yours?

Cargo nets are one of the best tools out there. I have two, one with a larger mess and a bigger spread.

A bit more than $7 dollars and it won't work for everyone but one of the best adds for me was a windshiled bag....or as the wife says....purse. LOL Great for the wallet and phone along with other misc stuff that needs to be handy.
