View Full Version : A good leather glove for the hot weather?

I have some mesh Tourmaster gloves, and the left glove is starting to fray on the inside of the index finger after about 11 months of use (maybe averaging one ride per week). Are there any vented leather gloves that will come close to the venting ability of mesh gloves?

I'm just wondering if any of you have ever tried vented leather gloves in the summertime and if your experience with them was good.

Check into Icon. They make a relatively clean and simple summer leather glove for hot days. Not mesh mind you, but still breathable to a degree.

Aerostitch also has some nice ones.

How hot? I'm discovering that clothing in hot weather keeps the rider from dehydrating. 85F Reno NV heat -- 90F out in the Nevada desert, and I'm comfortable on the highway in full leathers, full coverage gloves -- behind a fairing.

Of course when I stop, it's hotter than blazes. But I'm not stopping. I'm riding on the highway.

It's been so hot and humid down here, that when I get out my car in the morning at work, my glasses fog up so bad that I have to take them off for the walk to the building. I drive my car when it is more than a "40% chance" of rain. We've been hitting high 90's and low 100's for maybe 6-8 weeks.

My hands are more comfortable with a thin glove on.

Not that I've ever found, or heard of.

I use the Scorpion "Stinger" vented leather glove, in silver so they don't absorb heat like the color black does. Vents well enough in the Texas heat for me to like them, even though they do not vent quite as well as some mesh gloves I own.

The nice thing about them is that the knuckle protectors are hidden underneath the outer layer, so they look like they belong on the street, instead of the racetrack. They do seem to have a very good build quality to them, much like the rest of the products in the Scorpion line....

I use just regular vented driving gloves. They are thin with holes on the back side. I think they are better than fabric mesh gloves but that's just me.

You should get a pair. Gloves are pretty cheap. I never did replace my mesh gloves. They probably have a 3rd warm weather season left in them. Since it has turned cooler this month, I've made the move to my winter gloves, Cortech Scarab gloves.

As far as the thin mesh gloves (leather on the underside)... they are more comfortable than bare hands on the grips to me. I rode for a couple of weeks without gloves. My hands would be a little sore after riding. When I got those mesh gloves, my hands didn't hurt at all after riding. That may have been related to how tightly I was gripping the grips when I first started riding though. So... apples to oranges?

I don't know (very limited knowledge) of any gloves that are all season gloves. I do know that my Tourmaster Air Intake mesh gloves are very comfortable. My hands do not sweat in them, even in Alabama summers. The glove I wear for winter is waterproof. It is supposed to be breathable, but my hands still sweat a little. They don't get wet, but they get damp.

I like to use MotorcycleSuperstore.com for reviews (from owners). I also like to order from them too. Their standard ground shipping is faster than most companies "overnight" shipping. I get items within 36 hours. Yeah... It's that good. I suggest you spend a little time on that site. They have A LOT of stuff.

I've owned two pairs of Icon, short cuff, summer gloves. 1 pair was textile and the pair I own now is leather. They both vent pretty well, but I've noticed with those gloves and some other Icon gear I've owned that the stuff just does not hold up. The durability sucks. They start to fray and loosen waaaaay before they should.

ive been pricing tires there they seem to have the cheapest prices on some good tires. and i guess ill just have to buy two pairs then cause we went from 80 to like 40s over night it sucks.

I always ride with tough gloves.
That's one place where I don't compomise.
Same goes for boots.
Doesn't matter if its 110 F out there - that gear stays on.

The trick is to find some tough gloves .. but they're still thin enough to give you a good feel for the controls on your bike. That takes some time - try on a lot of pairs at the MC store. It's worth taking the time to get that just right.

There's just too much stuff that can happen when you're out riding a bike.
Having good protection on your head, hands and feet is gonna save your bu** some day.

Just my $0.02

That sounds crazzzzy...i wont lie, i squid it up most of the time with the lack of gear, but i would never be caught on the road without a pair of gloves...

"left glove is starting to fray on the inside of the index finger after about 11 months of use (maybe averaging one ride per week). "

So you used these gloves less than 50 times maybe and they are falling apart? Tourmaster my butt.

Go to a hardware store and buy a pair of leather work gloves. All venting does is make a glove easier to shred.

.

I came here to say this.. I have 3 pairs in varying thicknesses/styles that suit the weather for all but the coldest days. They even make a textile glove that breathes better than leather.

I'm still wearing those Tourmaster mesh gloves after two years. I think they just got a little frayed and that was it. I'm keeping them until they give it up.

Leather work gloves would not be very comfortable. If you wear those things here in the summer, the gloves gets "ruined" from being soaked in sweat. They would still protect your skin, but the inside of the glove gets all scratchy.

Tried multiple styles of gloves, including various lesser exspensive work styles, but have found that I am most comfortable and have the best "feel" for the bike in gloves specifically made for riding. It's possible that if I purchased expensive work gloves, they'd be better, but that sort of defeats the purpose of looking for a cheaper alternative.

never tried vented... but I was riding in the tropics with normal leather gloves, no problem with the heat
