Does anyone have any suggestions for everyday wear into riding bike boots that don't look create bulk or too clunky?

I love my shift fuel boots. I got the white ones thinking I'll keep them clean...no I didn't. Just bought a pair in black:)

Yeah, I'm looking for some too, but I haven't found any styles that I'm in love with.

Although this is the ladies forum, I have to chime in here.

Your concern for stylish is understandable, but it probably will only matter to other women.
The guys will still love you even if you wear some old army boots.

I never really paid attention to the look of what I wore until I got a new job & would like to find something that I can wear to work (business casual)

I gave up on women's boots. Apparently we can't tie our shoes anymore, because most laceup-style boots in women's sizes come with a damn zipper. I am OVER the zipper. It looks retarded and destroys any possibility of waterproofing the boot.

I'm not talking just about riding boots either. I'm talking about fashion boots too. I HATE ZIPPERS!! GRRR!!

Now that's an option I didn't even consider! Dang, if I'd only held onto my old Army boots... guess I'll go search for the closest surplus store. LOL

Hey, I make Army boots look GOOD..... LOL

ZIPPERS?! WTH?! The Harley riding boots Jim got me for Christmas were true lace-up but didn't fit right. They would have, if I'd dropped a twenty-pound dumbbell on top of my feet so they swelled up to twice their size. LOL I am SO not doing zippers... I'm going with CharlesW's idea of combat boots... LOL

HD boots do fit large. I wear a 7 in HD, but everywhere else I wear a 7.5 or 8.

But yes, zippers. Everywhere. Hate it.

Lineman's boots are on my list, actually. Built for a bit more all day comfort than most riding boots.

I tried on a pair of HD boots once they were not very comfy. Most boos I have had were not very comfy but those HD one were awful.

Hey, Ladies, I'm back.

I bought my 21 year old granddaughter some Sperry Top-Sider Boots for Christmas.
Actually, she picked them, I just bought them. :)

Anyway, here's a link to the boot page of Sperry Top-Sider.

Sperry Top-Sider Boots (http://www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController/sperry/subcategory?trail=1002%3Acat100156DM%3A1044DM%3A10 0031&sort=&subCatId=cat100156DM&catId=cat90048DM&changedFacetValue=&addFacet=21016%3A100005)

I don't think I saw a zipper in the bunch.
Granted, not all of them would be suitable for riding, but it looked like a couple of them might be.

Mine were initially but as they have broken in, they have begun to rub the backs of my heels.

CharlesW, those don't really look like motorcycle boots, or very protective. Maybe they are burlier than they look?

I'll probably go with some workboots of some kind for my next pair, or maybe something like these (http://workingperson.com/footwear/womens-boots/womens-motorcycle-boots/milwaukee-women-s-jack-hammer-8-inch-motorcycle-boots-mb234-42351.html).

Good to know, thanks. Which boot? Was it the same "Freedom Flex Non-Skid Non-Marking Oil Resistant Outsole"?

sunflashmace7

wasn't that particular boot, but it says the freedom flex bit and it sucks in wet weather.

Hmm good to know, thanks.
I might go with the Caterpillar work boots.

that's too bad, the Milwaukee boots look decent and are some of the few I've found that don't have a #*($&@(*&#@(*&(*# zipper.

Harley makes a six-eye boot that looks a lot like the old Doc Martens. Maybe a bit clunky but understated when worn with pants over them.

I'm over it with HD boots.

Why might I ask? This is my first pair. They're pretty decent. Honestly the only thing I don't like about them is the HD logo.

Firecracker

Well the pair I have were comfy to start, but as they broke in they developed places inside that rubbed my foot. It was like the inner layers wore away quickly or got shifted away from the places where they needed to be. I don't really know. Can't see anything in there that looks odd, but that's what it feels like. Plus, the sizing is REALLY weird and inconsistent--I have tried on 7s and 9s that both fit, so I would never ever buy a pair online where the discounts are.

Plus, it's hard to find a pair that doesn't have a #()$*($&*%@*$&@ zipper. There's a few that don't, but most of the women's styles do, and I hate zippers. It is my personal little issue right now, lol.

^^^LOL. I've seen several people express their dislike for zippers and I now know why.

I purchased a pair of Alpinestars SMX boots - mens 7.5 and the zipper only goes up half way...arrgghh The boot fits and the velcro will snap around my leg but I'm thinking with it half zipped it may not be safe.

If anyone has any boot suggestions for ladies with a slight wider calf, please let me know. I saw the Sidi post but it looks like the design for expansion was a fail too.

The one pair of HD boots I tried (my husband got them for me for Christmas) fit like sh*t, to be honest. They did not have the stupid zipper - but the toe was thicker (taller?) than even the toes on my husband's steel-toed work boots are. I could seriously have fit a brick in there with room to spare on top.

I dislike zippers for the simple fact that they can work themselves loose. Zippers loosen over time; or teeth break; then where will you be when you've ridden somewhere and have no spare boots/shoes to use to get home? It's easier to carry spare laces than it is spare boots.

Also, even if they have a flap over them, zippers are never really waterproof.

What's the point, anyway? we all know how to tie our shoes right?

The Alpines were my first MC boot purchase. I was more concentrated on the style. I guess as times goes on, I'll focus more on how comfortable and durable they are. I've never had a problem with zippers whether its the fit or them breaking. I prefer pull ons all together but I'll do a zipper before the lace up....that thought will probably change over time.

SavageKat

What about pull on engineer style boots? No zippers or laces to bother with.

Firecracker
02-17-2011, 09:10 AM
I have a pair of those, they are OK.

Not that I consider laces a "bother."

Why a zipper sassy? I'm just curious why people like them, because I can't imagine what the benefit is. It doesn't take that long to lace up boots does it?

SassyGurlT
02-17-2011, 09:39 AM
I'll have to check out the engineer style boot.

The only time I really where laces is to exercise. I've just got used to not wearing them as musch as I used to. I haven't seen a pair of stylish lace up boots with heels in a while. Most of the time I wear pull ons, short zippers or the laceless shoes.

But I'm always open to suggestions if someone found a "must have" pair.

These are what I wear, they are Ariats. They are my daily shoes. They are very comfy. I work with horses so I need some protection, they work well for the bike too.

Me too. I have 3 requirement.
1. Ankle support/protection
2. All day off bike wearability
3. Decent tread life.

So far I have found only one pair of boots that give me all that. Mountaneering boots on clearance at Burlington Coat Factory. I don't know what I'll do when they wear out. When In weather I wear motorcycle specific boots but carry extra shoes cuz motorcycle specific boots don't meet those requirements.

I don't feel as though those Ariats go high enough to give enough ankle support to do much of anything when tumbling at 55mph.

I just bought a pair of Ridge mid zipper boots. They are very lightweight. Can't tell you anything else yet, I only wore them once so far...http://workwearsavings.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/Ridge-AIR-TAC-Mid-zipper-Tactical-Boots-Black.aspx?a=645728&pm2d=CSE-WORK-8-BING

Okay, I just picked them up the other day, they seem comfy and I am going to throw a gel pad in them too...rode 150 miles just to get out for a bit...and they seemed okay, will watch the tread....for wear too...like the zippers though, that way I don't have untie them all the time...;)

Here's one way...PM the link to me and I'll post it. LOL I honestly have had no time to go boot shopping, heck I don't even have time to go shoe shopping for the kids, and my son needs new shoes as his are now too small (they're a size 6 and he just measured at a 7.5, whoops)! LOL

I really really want a pair of knee high riding boots. So, if anyone knows where I can find some.....

For now I just wear my work boots, regular ol' jungle boots... but it ruins the shine. I guess I'm just lucky no one says anything. XD

I'm height challenged so found some nice platform boots with heels and wear those on my taller bikes; work boots (non-slip soles) on my shorter bikes. I always carry a bit of duct tape or electrical tape so seriously, if the zippers split, just wrap tape around the boots and that will hold you until you can go shopping. I don't like the way zippers work their way down either; it's a serious safety issue, never mind water. A shoemaker can sometimes put a buckle on top to decrease the stress. Now I'm retired and have more riding boots than dress shoes. Kind of miss those red pumps though.

I recently got these and love them. Super comfy and look great with my jeans/chaps! When I read the reviews prior to buying them, many of the women said they love to wear them just for style and like the look with a dress or skirt. I'm not much of one for wearing skirts, but I could imagine that they'd look kinda cool. DO read the reviews, though, as the boots are made wide and you might have to order a smaller size:

Oy! I'm new here and can't post links. Go to LeatherUp.com and look up the Women's Engineer boot. Sorry for the inconvenience!
