I went and bought a new motorcycle lift from harbor freight the other day and it is awesome. It does everything I want it to and it is easy to store in my apartment. Not trying to advertise here but here is what it looks like.

Just figured if there is someone in my shoes they would like to know about it.

Wow, we have one of those in the garage.. I didn't even realize it was intended for motorcycles... We always just used it for moving around really heavy **** b/c of its flat base and rollers.

After I bought one for my VTX and found a deal on a BMW K100 witch had one with it I wound up with two.
They lift the big bike and I was suprised how stable the bikes sit on them.
There is a little sway and I block up and strap down if I need to do any heavy tourquing.

When you said lift, I thought you meant...

Picked this up about 10 years ago. Never regretted it. It's paid for itself at least 5 times over in ease and usefulness, and also earned income. Wish I'd gotten it sooner!
While Handy makes (IMHO) the best lift on the planet, cheaper versions can be had from Harbor Freight, Pep Boys, etc for a little over $300.00 (The Handy set me back about 9)

If all you ever do is WAX your ride, one of these will save your lower back!

I know this is an older thread, but since I am new here I figured I would ask. How sturdy is that thing? It looks scary to me. I just use my bike stands (front/rear) to wrench on my bikes.

Now the stand that Buell posted is more to my liking.

That's pretty much the exact same platform lift they use in the motorcycle shop where I used to work. The owner replaced some hydraulic in-floor lifts with a couple of these types of lifts. He sold off the narrow motorcycle ones to get the wider ones, not for stability, but to fit ATVs.

I wish I could afford the big bucks for one of the Handy lifts, but will probably do a Harbor freight $300 special some day, hopefully soon.

Let's just say I can sit on the bike with the lift fully extended. I can also stand on it, and run the bike as well.
Yes, it was an investment (bye-bye tax return!) but I've never regretted it and I've earned twice what I paid for it back by repairing bikes for people who didn't work on their own bikes because they didn't own a lift.
The Handy is the Gold Standard of every pro bike shop in America. Lots of aftermarket (Harbor Freight, Pep Boys, etc) stuff is beginning to flood the market these days, and if all you do is wrench on smaller sport bikes, they'll do just fine.
The problem with most of those "jack-lifts" is that they interfere with suspension, exhaust, fairings, coolant lines, etc. And for double the price you could have a Harbor Freight lift. The only issue is; do you have a place to put it? In that case, the jack-lift probably would be easier stored.
