View Full Version : Squeaking front brake
--
I've got a 2000 RoadStar that usually squeaks front brake whether hot, cold, or newly washed. It works just fine and it's not worn out, but it's kind of embarrassing.
Anybody tried anything for that? I know they have brake spray for cars, but I don't know if that would work on the bike disks.

Meguire's Hot Wheels Cleaner.
It comes in a windex looking bottle, you spray it on there, and then wipe it down, and then rinse with water.
Aside from making your wheels spotless, it will clean all the crud out of the brake disk too that causes the squeak. That stuff will really clean up brake disk junk.
Just make sure you RINSE IT THROUGHLY WITH WATER after you clean it off, and be prepared for a little funky brake until it gets dry. And be careful when you spray it, if it gets in your eyes it stings like hell.

The squeaking noise is caused by the brake pads vibrating at a very high frequency in their mounts as the brake rotor slides past. They also make a silicone rubber that cushions the brake pad to the caliper so the pad does not vibrate. In anti-squeak shims pads and silicon paste that is simply smeared onto the back of the brake pad. I have used this with VERY limited success.

This helped me too thanks.

If you are following up on the comment above, I think Cust... was saying it didn't do a particularly good job. Perhaps it worked better for you.

Good info up so far. Just to add my 2 cents there are two other things you may look at. The pad may be crystalized, take them apart and see if the pads are very shiny and cracked. If so try sanding the with a fine grade sandpaper you might hit the disk too. Next look for oil on them. if so, sometimes baby powder will absorb the oil and help.
