I'm building a xs400 bobber and I can't fit the ignition key switch anywhere convenient. I can stash it down below the battery which makes it tough to get at

I was wondering if I can switch the key on in the ignition in the "lights-on" position - leave it there - and use the kill switch on the handle bars as my on / off switch? I never use the electric start - only kick start it.

Theft isn't an issue - the times I have to leave the bike I can reach in and get the key.

Does the kill switch kill the entire electric circuit?

Thanks - pic attached.

rmal:

The kill switch interrupts the 12v from the fuse panel to the primary side of the coils and also kills the power to the ignitor box which of course kills the spark.

I don't think you can leave the ignition switch in the "lights on" or "P" position as this position allows you to have lights, but the Br wire that feeds the alternator would be left out of the circuit. Thats the difference between the "P" position and "On" on the ignition switch.

What year is your bike? I probably have a wiring diagram for it.

if it has one of those easy take off seats put it under the seat
