Looking at F650GS that was overheated for $1000

Hi, I'm looking at buying a 2001 F650GS with 30,000 miles on it that's engine was overheated so it does need a rebuild for $1000. I was wondering if this is a good price? I'm looking at probably doing the rebuild myself, but also was wondering what the price would be to have it done at a shop. Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

The bike is only worth about $1200-$1600 retail, in good running condition. Dumping several thousand more into it wouldn't be a winning idea.

I did this once with a Honda 750. Spent 500 on it and never got it running right after rebuild and scrapped it for $75
