Sympathy for Americans held in North Korea?

I find it mind boggling that any American would go to North Korea (other than Dennis Rodman who is best bud with the crazy leader there) even if they are of Korean ancestry or birth. How many times have we seen Americans get taken hostage and then the families beg our government to make some concessions to North Korea in order to get the American returned. Personally I have absolutely no sympathy for any American stupid enough to go to North Korea, and I would hate to see our government lift a finger to help any American hostage in that country.

They either knew what they were doing or so stupid that the only ones that might miss them would be family so let happen what will. Heck, there was even a recent warning to get out of there. They get what happens. Sorry. This country should not bend over backwards for people that take risks going to countries like that on their own. Ordered to by military is different.

I agree; I haven't much sympathy for anyone traveling to North Korea. This latest captive is not some stupid college kid going there in a lark. He is Kim Sang-duk, a former professor at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology in the northeastern Chinese city of Yanji, near the border with North Korea.

He had been teaching a class in international finance and management at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology for a month and was arrested at the airport trying to get out of that hell hole. He is of Korean and American descent so maybe he had a reasonable excuse for being there. Still, he's an idiot if he thought he was safe with a lunatic running the country.

From my past experiences, university Professors don't often have a whole lot of common sense.
