The Impossible Burger

Ok has anyone else heard of these? Or more importantly, has anyone tried one?

These are "total veggie burgers" but are made in such a way that it's near impossible to tell there's no meat in it. Only a few places selling them so far but the inventors are promising to crank up production big time real soon. Heck, I'll certainly try one. I'm a devout carnivore but I do have an open mind & who knows they might be good.

Be sure to find out what the ingredients are if you can. Got to wonder just what kind of chemicals they are using if any. Being a rancher I get my fill of meat so I too am open to a true veggie-burger. I've never found one except for a Portobello burger that was any good.

Beef, it' whats for dinner. Is it a wonder that the animals that make the tastiest meat for our consumption are VEGETARIAN? So you get the vegetables second hand, they taste better that way.

Fake meat technology is getting really advanced lately. My sweetie is a vegetarian, and is somehow not at all self-righteous about it. She insists that I eat meat, actually...We make chili with this stuff called "veggie crumbles" instead of beef, and I guarantee if you ate it, you'd never know it was fake if I didn't tell ya.

They said Soyant green was good too in the movie.

I'd sure like to know what chemicals y'all are ingesting for this stuff to look, feel, and taste like beef. This stuff must be a chemist dream.

I read on WebMD that a typical Veggie burger was much worse for you than the normal meat one is. To get it to even be tasty, it is filled with every salty ingredient and coated with Cheese and more cheese. Doesn't cheese if it's real come from a loving COW? Artificial cheese is made from a petroleum product SOY plays a major role in Veggie Buggers and soy is changing hormones in men (Look it up)

The picture to me looks like a pile of Duu-Duu

If God didn't want you to eat Cows then why did he make them taste like meat?

Animals were created by God for us to eat. Refusing to eat meat is like slapping God in the face. My almost everyday lunch is a thick cheeseburger, but without a bun. Gives me meat and dairy and no carbs. Every few days I eat a real sandwich so that the wheat farmers do not starve. Usually I have a nice ham and Swiss cheese sandwich. A few years ago I had a great bumper sticker , which for some reason the animal lovers did not appreciate. I put it on my car because I love animals so much: P.E.T.A, People Eating Tasty Animals.

And by eating more cows you are helping to reduce greenhouse gases, as they are a huge source of methane emissions. Be green, be environmentally friendly... eat more beef!

I agree with Rebeldog1, I like my veggies second hand. Then I "naturally" process it thru my body and and create a form of "organic" fertilizer for the plant "community". Circle complete. Besides if we didn't eat them, what would we do with dead cows?

Trust me on this, coyotes and buzzards make quick removal of them. So if you don't want more and more coyotes and buzzards you better eat cows before they do. Not eating them just let's both get bigger and produce more offspring.

While I would really love to eat more organically, it's too freaking expensive....I eat my veggies, and I eat meat...and Vito, I am a proud member of P.E.T.A. (People Eating Tasty Animals)

I do remember trying one of those veggie burgers years ago, and while I am sure "technology" has improved on what they once were, I hate lying to myself....and eating something that looks like meat but isn't is a lie....

Thankfully I've never come across any of the "militant" vegetarians so I haven't had to defend myself in that regard, but I won't give up eating meat...

Lets be frank and face reality: You could take a big dog turd and put in all those ingredients and additives form it into a patty, grill it and coat it with all kinds of thick slimy cheese, add tomatoes, lettuce and onions and it would probably taste okay. Just not for me

After a second look, it doesn't even LOOK tasty. The bun bottoms look kind of raw. The "burger" looks like dry, dirty, burnt, grill scrapings mashed into a patty. The tomato? or pepper? or whatever is red, looks like vinyl or shiny latex. Even the leaf lettuce looks plastic. To me the whole thing looks unappetizing and unnatural.

The one on the left looks like a meat patty to me. the one on the right looks like **** you would pull out of a deep fryer at McDonald's after it hadn't been cleaned in a week.

Companies have a long history of putting their product that appears in a commercial together to make them "pretty" It would not surprise me what the "lettuce and tomato" are made of.

I had someone try to pass off the "fake meat" to me once, I spit it out and announced (loudly) at the cookout that it was spoiled and noone should eat it.

I have had vegetarian burgers and sausage and have generally gone with they're "okay", this thing looks all right and kudos if it tastes like meat. But I remember last time I tried a vegetarian burger, I ended up having bacon with it, so I probably missed the point. And as said, if it's using a lot of chemicals and additives, then there is no real health benefit to eating one. You can make meat burgers that aren't so fatty and greasy and still taste good and without all the added chemicals.

And bacon is one of those reasons why I could never be converted. I think our friends will have a hard time making meat-free bacon that is like bacon.

I clicked on the link and scrolled down . . . "Our burger is made from simple, all-natural ingredients such as wheat, coconut oil, and potatoes. What makes the Impossible Burger unlike all others is an ingredient called heme. Heme is a basic building block of life on Earth, including plants, but it’s uniquely abundant in meat. We discovered that heme is what makes meat smell, sizzle, bleed, and taste gloriously meaty. Consider it the “magic ingredient” that makes our burger a carnivore’s dream."

Then I googled "heme." They're adding some chemical derivative of blood to a veggie burger??? YUCK. At least with beef etc, you sort of (hopefully) know where the blood comes from?? So why not just eat meat?? Everything on this earth is 'all-natural' in some form, isn't it? That doesn't mean it's 'all-edible.' I'm just guessing on this.

Hmm gives some food for thought. I'd probably still eat bacon, I cannot imagine it to truly be bacon-like, but I'd try it and if I am wanting something nice and healthy and if it is a genuinely tasty bacony thingy, then cool. But when I try to eat healthily, I can still eat bacon, just get back bacon and cut the fat off, it's mainly just protein then and still tastes decent enough without being so unhealthy.

Don't get me wrong, I am open minded. But, nothing veggie has tricked me well enough. For the ethical thing, there is an ethical bacon brand here called "Spoilt Pig" anyway, so you can have bacon knowing the animals aren't being mistreated.

Confirmed vegetarian here, with no regrets. I'll def be on the lookout for this in the Hampton Roads area; always looking for a better veggie burger. At this point the best around is at YaMoo, but they follow Harley Davidson's pricing formula, so I don't eat there for the same reason I don't buy HD.

I can understand the desire not to eat any kind of animal. And as long as in doing so a person only eats vegetables I get how a person can claim they are eating healthy. What boggles my mind is how can some still claim they are true health nuts while they consume any number of man-made chemicals. I get lost there. I go out of my way not to put chemicals in my animals before I eat them just so I can claim I'm eating healthy on the meat side. Just why would anyone accept chemicals over real meat is beyond me. Can any of you that consume them explain the rationale for me. Just curious how chemicals, many of which come from oil, is better than meat. Is it the amounts are low so it's okay? Or are you taking a leap of faith that they are safe compared to meat? If I can't pronounce the ingredients I become very suspicious.
