There is something fundamentally wrong with that statement, no?
A "transcontinental" ANYTHING, must include MORE than one continent, to be true.
So, for example, if his trip went from North America, and covered South America as well, his trip would TRULY be transcontinental.
If he only covered the span of the USA, he only covered one Continent, making the statement inherently false, but still an accomplishment, nonetheless, to be sure. ESPECIALLY in THOSE days, and on THOSE bikes!
"Trans" means "across" or "on the other side of." If you travel from North Carolina to California you have crossed the continent of North America. Transcontinental.
